Hi Guys
I,m working on a Little Malcolm Moore loco in 7/8ths scale (1:13.7). The full sized loco was originally fitted with a ford Flathead V8 and over a thousand of these locos were built during and after WW2 I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a model of the ford Flathead engine most likely in 1:12 scale. Thanks Alan

True most of the loco will be 3D printed but I have never drawn a v8 engine before and really did,nt want to so if anyone knows of a kit please let me know.

I don't know of a particular kit, but you'd need to find one of a 1/12 scale Ford car from the 1930s-40s - I'm not sure that such a thing exists.... in theory, I suppose you could get an engine from a 1/24 scale kit (which are certainly available), build the engine and maybe then get it 3D-scanned, then printed at double the size....?

Search for ERTL 7987. A set with 3 V8 Corvette engines in scale 1/12.
Had one set, sold it...

Nice set of three classic V8s, Henri, but sadly none of them are old Flathead (sidevalve) type, which are quite distinctive from Overhead Valve engines..... I suppose a reasonable representation could be mocked-up using the basic block from one of these with some new head covers from plasticard with sparkplugs and leads added, and something to suggest an old-style carb setup.....?

Wonder if there is already a Drawing for one out there suitable form for scalling and 3D Printing. Worth some searching or asking your £D (edit 3D) Printing man if it is not you.

Good idea - have you searched on Shapeways?

Thank Guys for the advice but on reflection and some design constraints I have decided to go with the version with the inspection covers in place, it gives me a lot more room for the electronics and batteries. Ive now started building and it seems to be coming together fairly well Ive been able to test it and it runs very smoothly it is fitted with one of my own gearboxes.DSC_07781.jpg DSC_07801.jpg DSC_07831.jpg DSC_07851.jpg DSC_07861.jpg
The bearings are temporary I'm still waiting on shapeways for the finished prints.

Well its been a while the parts Ive been waiting for from shapeways have finally arrived!!!!:rofl::rofl:
it only took 1 week from the USA to Sydney and 5 weeks from Sydney to Adelaide:banghead: I think the guy running from Sydney must of worn out a couple of pairs of shoes:D:D
now the parts are here Ive been able to get the loco finished all bar the radio gear, here are some picsDSC_07811.jpg DSC_07811.jpg DSC_07821.jpg DSC_07861.jpg DSC_07881.jpg

Nice work - and those nameplates are superb too!

What a difference a coat of paint and a 'lid' make to the overall impression!:clap:

Though I quite liked it without the lid, and in grey! ;)

Very nice.....:inlove:
