Malc's Models Magnetic Couplings

Is anyone else on the forum using these?

I've fitted them to my rake of LGB 3062/3063 coaches, and to my Piko Shimmns-tu wagons.

I've had to glue the magnets back into the pocket on some of them. Another one broke as it wasn't 3D printed properly, but it was replaced FoC by Malc's Models when I told him about it at the Fosse earlier this month.

I've just got around to replacing it today. I quite like them myself....

Not used the couplings, but I would comment that supermagnet alloy does not appear to like being glued, particularly.

I wonder if the magnetism is strong enough to 'upset' superglue, at a molecular level?

Ok if you are not bothered about uncoupling during a train run, need to pulled apart.

I bought a pair of trams on Ebay a few weeks ago that had magnetic couplings. They were not Malc's Models but I found similar on Ebay. They seemed very good but a bit pricy. I will add a few photos tomorrow when the sun comes out.

Are these any good on twisty (and off camber) sections?

I have the 3056x bernina and the brunig 3 axle coaches, which have a problem with the track so interested to see if these might be an option.

I have tried magnetic couplings but they weren't a success on my trailer layout with all the R1 reverse curves!

I have no twisty track and only used them on 4 axle bogie vehicles.

I've run them on other railways and they've been fine....

YES ! and NOT liked them, they have "broken" and cracked very quickly after very little use ! (this is a 3d print issue that people will find) so much so I have designed my own instead and Im having a play with them in PLA and now ABS and some very strong magnets off of ebay !

The couplings I have seem heavier. Plenty of slack in them. They work OK indoors including reverse curves, but I've not tried them outside (leaves on line).couplings1 (Small).jpgcouplings2 (Small).jpgcouplings3 (Small).jpg

Yes, as mentioned in post 1, I had a couple break due to poor 3D print, but they have been replaced FoC, so I'm happy.

I'd be interested to find out more about your version though....
