Mamod Brunel - new loco issues

I have some interesting issues with my new Brunel loco. Various quality-control items, like a leaking gauge siphon pipe and a leaking water take-off/blowdown under the water glass, but nothing that can't be fixed. But its getting very, very hot when I light the burner. The footplate will boil the leaking water, the ends (even the buffers) get too hot to touch, and there's white dust all over the burner area. Once it has been lit for a while, the oil burns off the gears nearest the boiler!!

I'm quite familiar with small steam locos (it sits on the shelf next to an Otto, Chaloner, RWM De Winton, Accucraft Countess, etc.)
I think there's something amiss with the burner. It won't stay lit at low valve openings. I have cleaned it twice (blowing back from the gas can, etc.) I'm using pure butane from my local Korean deli.

I uploaded a short youtube video of the burner action. You can hear the pop-pop-pop of the burner, and the clanking of the running gear.

Any suggestions/ideas ??

Looking at the video it would appear that the burner is over gassed [ smaller gas jet ] or a gas leak in the gas system, The popping noise is the gas igniting outside of the firebox where there is more air. One other thing does it have a ceramic burner ? check that it clear of any debris.

Shaun,
Thanks for the suggestions. I concluded it was clearly burning outside the (ceramic) burner, as everything got hot.

I took the boiler off and removed the burner and gas tank, and bench-tested it outside. It worked fine. So I put it back and tested without the boiler - still looking good (silent, hot, invisible flame.) I'll try a steam test later.
I think part of the problem was the jet was blocked partially so I had to turn up the gas to get it to light. I have marked the gas valve so I can see how far it is open - seems to need a mere 1/8 turn.

Watching the video was a bit frightening! I've had one of these locos for a few years and I've not had that problem, I'm glad you have sorted it out. What I have done though, is lift up the boiler by about a M5 washer, it helps the firing. Do you find that the steam oil gets burnt out very quickly?
