Massooth 8442090 Manual Switching Coupler (4 Pack)

If you look at the coupler:

You can easily see the "side mounted checkered plate"..... on the left is an extra plate (that has a pattern = checkered)'

pushing that plate down with your finger will uncouple the coupler...

so to answer your question: "what device should I use to trigger the coupler"

I would use your finger... but you could use any other appendage you desire if you have enough control !!!!

Thanks Greg, I am afraid I did not catch the meaning, I should have paid more attention to the term "manually". That coupler will be fine for my grandsons so they can uncouple anywhere.

To be honest to be of any use they need to be fitted to every wagon or coach, thus not much use to me. A good old Sheffield Stainless Steel bone table knife is my weapon choice, well blunt of course.image.jpg

It depends on how you operate. For uncoupling a loco from a train, you just need one on the loco.

Also, if you run rakes of coaches/wagons, then you might decide to put to only on the ends of the rake.... etc etc.

I am putting them on both ends of my shunting locos to start with.

Indeed so but operating can be a pretty broad church, I tend to believe that running with wagons being detached and attached en route is operating. Others will disagree and think that running round and round in circles is operating. As you say just uncoupling a loco and swopping ends to run the other way us a ‘depending’ type of operation, but not of a lot of interest to me or my gang of operators. However there are trains on my line that do that, notably a few passenger only trains in the timetable (schedule) and on occasion mixed trains that end up being just passenger trains, it’s all in the waybills that get into the wagon cards.
