hi. i have bought an lgb loco on ebay that is fitted with a massoth xls decoder. i am using lgb controller 55015. i can get the loco to move but that is all. no lights or sound. what am i doing wrong?
thanks

The lights are put on by pressing F9, sound can be a case if playing with F6 and F8. F6 can do start up and shut down but F8 does sound on/off toggle.

Just checking...your 55015 has a P sticker? And your central is a 55005 with a P...or a 55006?

Malcolm

F6 is normally Sound on/off and F5 is normally Startup/Shutdown on Massoth sound decoders.
F7 should trigger output A1, F8 should toggle "Shunting Mode" (sets the maximum speed to half the normal max speed).

Thanks for the info.
still no joy.
my kit is 55015. No P. The central unit is 5505P.
there is an “F” on the controller. Do I need to press that before all the numbers you have been referring to? Sorry if that’s a really daft question.

So turns out my controller is the p version as denoted by the sticker on the back. However when I put it in parallel mode and try to turn lights on it goes back to serial mode. Is there a different way to put lights on in serial mode?

Thanks for the info.

Yes F is Function, so for lights F9, sound F6 or F8.

Try again and report back....

surly, with the loco selected, you should only press the number of the function (1 to 8, 9 for lights) you wish to trigger and NOT the F button followed by the number!

Pressing F triggers a special operation, ie. F then 9 toggles between serial and parallel commands for the selected loco. F then 1 changes to Accessory mode (S--) so that you can change a point.

By putting my controller in parallel I can now operate the newer locos properly. That works fine now other than directional lights which still won’t cooperate.
thanks for all the replies.

I stand corrected Mark!

Got myself confused there sorry....

Do you get flashing lights, as you increase / decrease speed? - If the speed-step settings between decoder and Central Station do not match, this can happen.. :nerd:

PhilP.

As the central station is of an older type it is likely to be set to 14 speed steps, the default for Massoth XLS decoders is for 28 speed steps this incompatibility will produce the symptoms you are describing. Do you have the ability to interrogate the decoder - if so change the speed steps to 14 on the decoder or otherwise change the central station to 28 speed steps.

Note, the OP never indicated flashing lights, and the loco runs so it appears his speed step setting is good.

He also found out the decoder needs parallel mode.

He also had been hitting the F key all the time, which added to the confusion, since he was probably changing between serial and parallel mode all the time.

The only thing that has not been reported to be taken care of is that his directional lights "don't cooperate", whatever that means.

This is probably blindingly obvious but:

As the OP has just bought this loco..
Do you have an analogue controller? - If so, does the loco run on analogue (it may not), and if it does, do the lights work? - Again, it may be set for them to be off..

Have you checked that:
1. There are bulbs fitted.
2. Pulled a bulb, and checked it on a 5-6V supply?

PhilP.

definitely has bulbs.
i think its the 14 v 28 step issue. (which i do not have the ability to fix). all other functions work other than the external lights.
controller is now set in parallel.
Phil, great idea, i will try it on analogue to make sure lights do work before i do anything else.
thanks for all the help.
