Milton locomotive works burner?

Daniel,
Yes I have one in my Edrig/Baldrig XT . Well worth the money its burns almost silent and is very efficient.

John.
P.S.
To see it running go to Youtube and look for my Postings under Llanwellyn to see it running super dooper slow.

Daniel,
Tag Gorton is a keen proponent of simply wrapping stainless steel mesh around the standard Accucraft burner. It seems to work as well as the MLW modification.
Have you ever tried doing that John, and what was your experience?
Steve

Steve,
No I never tried the stainless mesh just went for the modification. Well worth the money. You get a longer run, less noise, easier to light etc.

John.

The modification is a new burner poker so it is superior to the wire mesh modification.
Thanks for the comment John. I had a MLW modified burner on my Edrig when it was gas fired (I thought I sold it to Daniel :) )

Does he still do them?

They do make a difference, how much so depends on how good your burner was to start with!

You can still get them burning in the smokebox on first lighting up if you aren't careful, they aren't a "fix all". They are a bit quieter though- firstly they are more efficient, so quieter anyway, and the increased efficiency means you can turn it down a bit further than you would normally.

The mesh mod is a kind of half way house in my experience- better than standard, but not as good as the MLW burner, but it can be a bit hit and miss. In terms of bang for your buck it's well worth trying though (to whoever is reading this who hasn't!).

If he does still do them I may get one for my Lawley- my experience of them is in my old Edrig/Caradoc hybrid. There's a definite advantage in terms of run time.

Another big fan of the MLW burner here. I changed mine fairly early in my Edrig's life being unhappy with the roar it produced.
I personally think that for the sake of £25 or so, it isn't worth messing about with the mesh idea. Just my opinion of course.

My research says it does make a difference, and for of 99p and ten minutes tinkering I reckon it's worth a play should one feel so inclined.

However, as you say the MLW burner isn't particuarly costly and makes even more of a difference- I definitely think it's worth the money.
