Modifying an LGB 2076 Kleine Dicke

I am trying to Australianise a LGB 2076 Kleine Dicke loco and have a question about the steam motors.
Does the piston rod extend through the steam motor into the piece that is sticking out the front

I am planning to cut it off to make the loco appear more Australian like.

I doubt it. I only have the toy battery version here which has different motion work. I can't imagine that the part that sticks forward from the cylinder being hollow. I've seen them busted off.

Nope, so you can chop them off.
I did it when I converted 2 into the Garratt.

I think the 2076 loco and the 2075 Spremberger are basically the same and if that is the case, the projecting rod sticking out of the cylinder is a solid and could be cut off with no problem. Indeed, I count myself lucky in that both the two 2075s I have are complete with these projections as it common for used ones to have at least one missing

I think the main difference between 2076 and 2075, that I've seen is the valve gear.
