More on LGB motor blocks....?

How easy/difficult is it to change the wheels on modern (sandwich type) LGB motor blocks? Can you remove the press-on wheels and replace them individually, or is it simpler to just to drop the whole axle out and change the complete axle with its gear?

Just wondering about changing the wheels on a Stainz motor block (red wheels with coupling rod bosses) for the plain black disc type used on the diesels.

Jon.

Easy, especially as the disc wheels do not need Quartering.

My tools, mini workmate & claw hammer.

Carefully lever off wheels using claw hammer

To replace, just squeeze them back being careful to keep them square

If you need to remove the gears use same tools

Thanks Mike - they say a picture is worth 1000 words!
I must get one of those mini workmates - looks really useful

That one came from Lidl's. When doing jobs like wheels you can get a nice straight squeeze
