Mth Daylight Passenger Cars.

I lucked out and got a MTH Daylight locomotive, then about the same time MTH decided to re-release the passenger cars. I ordered a set from Ray Manley. The MTH cars come with an interior and lighting, via plungers against two axles on the car. There is an on/off switch for the lights under the car. I opted to put Kadee 820 couplers on the cars. MTH provides a mount for them so it is very simple to do. You can use the Hook and Loop if you wish.

Hi Jerry - You'll enjoy that - the Daylight looks great on your railroad. I took the pick-up plungers off my nine cars as they caused a major drag problem and replaced them with battery-powered leds. They're not quite as bright as the bulbs but I can live with that. I also shortened the MTH couplers and added some shaped black card to the gangways between the cars and my scratch built baggage car so they are close coupled and they look much better without that big gap between the cars.

Very nice Jerry....

MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmm.............. train porn........

Like to see the black card shapes you made.

Very nice Gerry. I used to have a set of Daylight heavyweights (Aristo') and streamliners (USAT) with a Pacific and F3 ABA set (latter in daylight colours). Could not get hold of an MTH GS-4. then went 1:20.3. Saw a pristine 2nd hand Daylight GS-4 live steamer going for £2,400 at the recent LG show at the Warwick barn. Drooool !

Jerry - I carefully removed one of the diaphrams (corridor connectors or gangways) from one of the cars, drew round it onto some 3mm thick black card I had, cut them out and glued them onto the plastic diaphrams with a rubber solution glue to I could easily peel them off if I needed to. I made the card cut-outs a solid shape so the interior car lights wouldn't shine through the open car ends. With the diaphrams thus easily extended and the shortened couplings, there is only about a 2 or 3mm gap between the cars, so visually they look much better. Hope that helps.
