MTS Fitted loco on Analogue

Will MTS fitted locos work on analogue? If they are fitted will the sounds work on analogue? Like the Piko system, I'm looking to buy a couple of LGB locos just I've never heard of the MTS system, so I'm unsure if it will damage the loco.

Yes, they will work, but not on pulse width power, it will fry the chip..and u may not get all the sound funtions

MTS is LGB's variant of DCC. Generally, MTS/DCC fitted locos will run on analogue unless the feature has been disabled through programming. With DCC sound locos on analogue you have no control over when the sounds occur. Some maybe be triggered randomly, some may sound depending on direction. It depends what's been programmed into the decoder.

<edit> PWM pulse power is very unlikely to "fry" the decoder as the voltage is still within the DCC limits of the decoder, but PWM can confuse the loco into running erratically or not at all and therefore best avoided.</edit>

PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) is a type of analogue DC control used by some systems (eg: the old Aristocraft "Train Engineer" basic units) in place of a smooth variable DC power; if you're sticking with LGB power controllers then you don't need to worry about it, LGB use smooth DC.
As others have said above, unless the MTS chip has been fiddled with by someone then any LGB sound-equipped loco will run just fine on analogue; you won't be able to trigger things like bells and whistles directly from your controller like you can on DCC/MTS control, but you can still make them sound by placing triggering magnets at certain points on your layout. Most locos will also give a whistle blast or a horn toot before moving off, even on analogue control, and all the normal "running" sounds will work automatically including speed-dependant engine noises. When a loco is parked up, if you are VERY careful on the control knob you should be able to just balance it so the loco doesn't move, but the sounds are still "on", with engine tickover for a diesel and the nice hissing sounds of a steamer. Turning the control knob down past this point will cause the sound to cut out as there isn't enough voltage going to the track to run the sound chip.
So short answer is YES - an MTS-equipped loco with sound will still run (and produce sound) on DC.

Do beware with Piko, however - what goes for LGB is not always the case with them, locos equipped with Piko decoders and the separate Piko-branded sound chips will, I believe, NOT produce sound when run on DC power! The loco will run and it won't hurt it, but it will just be silent.

Thanks guys! Piko sound decoders do with on DC I have a 0-6-0 Switcher that is sound fitted and they use the same system with magnets.

Those are ones from starter sets that are designed to run on analogue DC, and I don't think are DCC-chipped (I stand to be corrected here if someone knows differently); the ones I was referring to are those where the little separate sound chip is plugged into the SUSI socket on a loco with a Piko DCC decoder fitted - if they also work on DC then that's great, but I'm just not 100% sure that is the case, maybe others can clarify?

I bought mine and installed it myself, its the Piko 36220 DCC & Analog American Steam Sound Decoder, the sounds kick in on a very low voltage. Depending on which way you place the track magnets you either get a bell or whistle. I would post a video but my railway is overgrown..
