A few days ago I visited Jeremy in Dragon G Scale. I hadn?t seen him for a while, but I like to go up there now and again to gaze at the wonderful array of LGB, Bachman and Piko items he has. I came across an old LGB Post van 3019n.
This was the old style LGB, so it is missing some of the more modern Decals and the more modern electronics. A price was agreed and it was mine!
Now I should warn you, the van was in a bit of a state, caked in dirt, grime and anything else that managed to attach itself to the wagon in the last 20 or so years.
The picture above was half way through the clean up process. As you can see someone had decided to colour over the rear end in some form of marker, so this was the second task... To clean this up!
On the inside of the wagon, someone had decided to place plastic over the windows for the outside. I'm not sure if the newer ones have this, but as I'm sure you will agree, it makes the inside look a little tatty. So the next job was to get rid of it and clean the inside a little.
The brass strips which run the length of the carriage had oxidised over the years, so after some braso, they came up great!
The last thing left on the list was to put some pickup shoes on the wheels, so that the wagon could have track pickup. 5 minute job!
All that was left was a bit of spit and polish to get to her up to a respectable standard.
I was amazed that the lights still work in her too! I havent got anymore plans for this one. I think ill just run her for a while.
