well being a bear of little brain and all the recent enthusiam over these,

together with a rather long time nostalgia (the FIRST LGB i ever saw was the cream and red loco, on an overhead, at FAO Schwartz in NYC)

i bought one , unused entirely, a shelf sitter, yesterday
pretty sure its 1987 -no gold sticker-and designated 2095N -cranberry box
mine came with 4 very small balck square plastic pieces, like plaquards, in a small bag-yet i see no place to attach-and if mine had stickers -theyre gone

they ARE a really wonderful engine once in hand and on the track- smooth like a mallet-mine needed lube indeed
was wondering if the real things had red lights when running in reverse, as, if so, i might easily replace the the incans with red/warm white 3 mm LEDs ala rail bus or trolley so i could have red end lights on the bottom 2 and the top simply directional white

Steve - they were, as far as I can gather, just headlights - so all three on in direction of travel, but not red on the rear as this would be up against a wagon or carriage anyway.

She looks a beauty - the model represents the second version of the OBB red livery with the darker roof, circa mid 1980s - but before the re-numbering where they all gained an extra two digits with computerisation of the OBB numbering system.

No idea what the black plates are for?! Mine didn't come with any - and mine too was brand new, although a much newer model.

perhaps they are strays (i was thinking maybe from the RhB box 2046??)
-as this purchase of mine was from a larger collection in the store
and the staff, or the seller, didnt get things properly sorted, or got things jumbled in and out of the displays

thanks for the info on the red lights-while i dont care if they face a wagon (as they are fun )-i wont add something that isnt right-

(although i love to play with LEDs on some older, non 5v LGB as they are an easy reversable swap and light at lower voltages-like the trollys and small switchers)
and,

Hmmm, no idea on the little black bits, Steve - I recently acquired exactly the same model (2095.11) as yours, used but still boxed with its instruction manual and an unused sticker sheet of alternative numbers, and there were no little black plaques in mine, or any mention of them in the manual.
My loco is in bits on the workbench at the moment, partway through having an XLS and speaker installed - the motor blocks have both been dismantled and "digitised" (ie: made into 4-wire units), the great big 15-watt Visaton speaker is in with a spray-can-cap enclosure over it (thanks to whoever it was on here who suggested this tip recently!), just got to sort out the wiring for the lighting and connect everything to the decoder.

i run analog-
anyone have a suggstion for a great sound unit i can add
i think that would really bring this engine to life-literally

and
iwas just poking around on you tube-
2095.10 did have a red reverese light above one of the single headlamps-
but i wont be cutting into mine to add one

Steve - I'd buy a Massoth "S" sound-only module and get it programmed (by wherever you buy it) with the 2095 sound files, it will happily run on analogue and is a LOT cheaper than an LGB "black box" sound unit. The S module has a 3-watt sound output, the unit itself is quite tiny (about 35mm x 20mm) and it only needs to be connected to the track power by two wires, which you can take off the feeds to the auxiliary power socket at the back of the loco. Put a nice big speaker over the standard grille that's already moulded into the loco, blu-tack a large spray can cap over the top of the speaker as I mentioned above, and it'll be growling away wonderfully!

I have the MRRails diesel sound unit in mine, just throbs and whines, no horns or anything.
My 2095 must be 40 years old: it has metal con rods and a srew in bulb at each end for the lights, and I think it has the split gearboxes too.

I bought a Mylocosound diesel card but I didn't like it, its in the drawer to fit to an LGB V52 when I see one at the right price.

Yep, with metal rods and screw-in bulbs that's a pretty old one, but I bet it still runs well! The split gearboxes were still around on much later ones, though, my 2095.11 has them (though it has plastic con-rods and push-in bulbs) and I'd guess Steve's one has too.

ack choo alley
mine has the later type motor block-top plate, 4 screws, and single piece motor block-which is something i really look for-
while i have done many a clamshell
and i think they are high quality
wheels and axels are getting scarce, and compared to the more modern versions,
i dislike them, especially to simply lube the gears-

so ...would running blue zillertal 3073 type coaches be sorta ok? i have no 4 axel austrian stock except for the blue bike boxcar... how about those nice green DB 3070's .....
damn...one thing demands more things.....LOL

in looking at LT's link-that pic says 1987-and the loco has a lighter grey roof
mine has a dark roof-perhaps the gold sticker fell off and its in fact a 1988???

That's very interesting about the gearboxes, Steve - I wonder if yours is an '88 and mine an '87, and the changeover from split to sandwich gearboxes happened between them? Mine has quite a pale grey roof in the centre, with the two sprayed bands of dark shading both sides.

I've got some of the blue 3073 Zillertal coaches, and they look great behind a 2095 of any vintage.

Those cover plates look suspiciously like the covers off the point motors to allow fitment of the micro switches?

great links
i like your loco too red rods and cream roof look great
if i am seeing thing s correctly, it appears to have a bulb in the cab on the rear wall, unlike the earlier versions

noticed that some of the 2095 have extra ittle lights up alongside the roof headlight-
thanks again for the cool link
