Anybody know if the latest Mylocosound card can be used without the TV remote control?

I'm planning on using one for my 3 truck shay but really do not need to have it adjustable after I set it up. My other one I set up using pots and have never changed it.

I asked the question on the Mylocosound site but as for a reply the silence is deafening.

If I can't get one without the TV control any suggestions for an alternative for a 3 cylinder Shay.
 
Hmmm, going from something you could set up with a few turns of the screwdriver to one where you have to have or buy an extra piece of kit may be a technological advancement, but to me it seems like a bit of a retrograde step in terms of user-friendliness....?

The total cost of the sound card and the programmer is exactly the same as the old version sound.
Then, after that the new sound systems are the cost of the IR remote cheaper than the old sound. ;)
 
I've been really impressed with the new card. I find it a bit of a faff setting the trim pots on the old card to achieve the optimum levels, whereas with the IR remote it's a doddle.

If I had the cash, I'd replace my old cards with the new one without hesitation.

If you've got one of those universal remotes, the instruction sheet gives you the code needed to program it for the card.

If anyone UK based wants info on MyLocoSound, the it's worth asking Peter Spoerer; the UK agent. I've always found him to be incredibly helpful - even to the point of him taking the phone out into the garden so I can hear the soundcard in action. He's a real enthusiasts' enthusiast.

I emailed a reply to you on 30th May. May be it went into your spam folder. The reply said:

The new soundcard has no pots and is adjusted and sounds are optionally triggered by the remote control. This is for two reasons. First we have several more sounds like a brake pump, a guard’s whistle or “All aboard” and a safety valve blow off. To control these with pots would have needed about twelve pots which would have put up both the price and the size of the soundcard. Secondly the remote control means that you can mount the soundcard inside the loco yet be able to make adjustments without having to take the loco apart.

Only one remote control is needed for any number of soundcards and they cost only $10 each. If you already have a Sony TV remote control, you can use that,

Please post the diesel soundcard to me at the address below for checking. If the problem is a corrupted memory then I may be able to re-program it and send it back with only a small post and handling charge. If a component is blown then it will probably not be repairable but we might be able to replace it with a refurbished one.

I went to look at the New Card as I wished to have a listen at them. I am minded to buy one for a previous Conversion that I have done with one of your Older Electronic Sythasised Sound Cards. It appears that the old Synthasised YouTube Vids are still being linked to via your site. Or is it that your site has not been updated?

Perhaps you might like to let us know any new links that you may have made.

Hi Jon
I'm fairly sure the links on the website are to videos of the new universal cards. I remember checking how to alter the whistle tone with the remote control when I'd installed the steam card in one of my locos.

The website videos are of an early version of the new universal soundcard. I am about to update them with a later video which can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnmTft2vQ6A. We have just finished upgrading the US whistle and now include an option to sound the standard US whistle sequences automatically using a radio control or track magnets.

For American locos, you can also now order the soundcard with "All aboard" in place of the guard's whistle.
