need someone locally that install LGB components for my layout. I have LGB parts but don't know first thing about installation. Please Help

Joe welcome, good job my crystal ball tells me your not in the UK, sorry I can't help. :)

Why not try a look at You Tube, plenty of vids to help. Just search on the #number of the item. All a learning experience worth going on.

My experience of LGB with no experience of wiring things up is it's not too difficult. If you are working with modern LGB points (switches), for example, the wiring is just two wires, the point and a switch box (I use LGB ones so all is consistent and fits in with the instructions). Do a google search along the lines of LGB NNNNNN instructions where NNNNNN is the item number, and various sources will come up, Champex-Linden for example but also I think Shourt Line in the States. Download the instructions, print them off, get hold of the simple tools and bits you need and give it a go. You'll be surprised what you can do!

If you were to let us know the nature of the LGB components that you need installing some on here might be able to offer advice on how to go about, and perhaps even demystify, the processes. I speak as someone who has recieved and acted on a lot of advice here in areas I feared to tread. But that still does not stop me paying someone to do it, sometimes. No shame in that. Max

Welcome to the forum Joe. As others have said once you've read the instructions and had a trial run, as it were, you'll probably find it's easier than you think. Generally speaking, it's often getting started is the hardest part

Forgot to welcome you Joe and as Paul says here, starting is always the hardest part.

Hi Joe
Welcome to the forum. Can you be a bit more specific? Do you want to control your turnouts with a home made control panel, an LGB control box or a DCC system?

If you use an LGB box, it should come with instructions. If you're using DCC the control of turnouts will depend on which system you are using. If you want to make your own control panel then take a look at this blog post - How did I make the control panel

If you are local to me (Cheshire, UK), I'll happily come round with a soldering iron and get you started.

Rik
PS Just noticed you're based in Long Island NY (even though your post shows a GB flag), so looks like you're not local to me, sorry. Maybe the blog post will help.

I can only speak living as a UK resident. I assume it is the same the rest of the world over where you have a sufficient density of model railroaders. Usually specialist railway retailers will either be able to directly assist with installations of equipment or retain a person(s) with the expertise - usually at a cost. It is in their interests for them to offer these services as it will in time promote further sales and customer retention. The other route is to contact the distributor of the products you wish to have installed and see if they can point you in the direction of an approved agent offering these services - similar rational applies here.

You might also look for any local model railway/engineering (sorry, railroad) clubs you could join where other members could assist you or offer direct advise. The camaraderie and seeing others work is a benefit too. It has worked for me here for many years - When I feel I really do not have the expertise and feel I will risk wrecking some valuable electronics or live steam equipment and really just want to play with my trains. Max

P.S. Welcome !

Definitely need more info. I assume LGB EPL drives on the switches/turnouts
Do you have the 4 switch LGB control boxes (be sure it is the 51750 or 5075 which take 18 volts AC (you can use a bell transformer from lowes/depot , get 16 to 18 volt , not the 12 volt). EPL drives have a white nad orange dot which connects to the same color on the switch box.
Do yourself a favor and download this manual LGB 559 pdf

Joe, as you are in NY, perhaps there is a local club where you will find some guys who have already done the kind of install you are looking at. One may even volunteer to help. How about getting in touch with the Long Island Garden Railway Society?
https://ligrs.club/

This website is sorta UK/EU centric. You might be better off posting your question on a USA website like Largescalecentral.com or Mylargescale.com.

As ever, that is the best advice. A proper "live" demonstration is worth 1000 videos and many more words

That Long Island group look to be a very busy crowd. Well worth a look at their downloadable newsletter with a few interesting articles and notes. Wish I had such a group near me.
