New LGB Fleet Addition (RC)

Hello, I picked this up, boxed and apparently unopened for what I felt was a good price. I am very much rule eight, run what I run, so some people may not like this! I removed all the Santa Fe livery and decals and replaced with my own. I fitted Cliff Barker Radio control and 10 sub c 1.2v 4500mah cells. I know the switch is a bit ugly but I prefer to be able to find it easily everytime after "hiding" them on other locos. I also fitted a brass hook as some of my couplings are links.

I was wearing flip flops and dropped the soldering iron so it lodged between my toes. Ouch!!!

The loco is seen out on test, with one coach for the management to ride in.

FLIP FLOPS !! :rolf: That'll learn ya. :crying:

Hi Ian. I have one of these engines on the way which I hope to convert
to RC. Can you tell me what configuration and type of battery you used
and how it fits into the loco. Thanks.

Hi Macfinman

I used 10 sub c tabbed cells of 4500mah. Where practical I have standardized on nimh for trains, although other RC uses lipo and lion so am familiar with those also. Although nominally this is 12v in reality it is about 14v which is more than enough for this little loco.

I removed the weight and the motherboard pcb and then built the battery to fit in with the cells vertical. For one motor LGB this is going to run for a long long time. I fixed the speed control/reciever unit from Cliff barker under the curved protusion in the cab and then ded the aerial, charge lead and indicator lead into the cab also.

If you wish to keep the main board to avoid yoru own lighting circuit then use 2450 aa nimhs which will fit equally well and retain the board. I just had the cells to hand.

the overall weight effect is about neutral, or actually slightly lighter. However I wasn't looking for heavy haulage so this is no problem.
hope this helps.

Hi Ian
Many thanks for your speedy reply and the info. I also use nimh and lipo but prefer
aa or subc nimh for permanent installation. I have converted Piko v60 and Bachmann
Lyn with aa's and use lipo in stainz.
Regards Keith.
