Morning all just got hold of one of the new LGB Red Diesel Loco,s (Wanergroode?) have been running it in after regreasing the gears as per thread on here! and noticed when I run it slowly it seems to jerk as if the motor is turning hesitantly from segment to segment ,anyone else had this problem?? and got a solution??? Merv from a sunny s wales coast.....

Merv,
If its abrand new loco it shouldnt 'Cog'
If you have removed the baseplate to grease the gears, then make sure that the wheels are correctly aligned and not slightly 'out' by 1 cog on the gears,
I have had a few of these locos over the years and all performed faultlessly
Steve ( It sunny up here too!!)

Picked one up a few months ago and it is exactly the same, especially when running slow, does not apear to be 'coging' its seems more as if its binding at some point in the rotation, not had time to strip it down yet to have a good luck, so also interested in any one else's experience.

Missed the thread on re-greasing the gear box, anyone got a link, as i don't seem to be able tofind it using the search engine ?

P.S. meant to say it seems to hate R1 curves and R1 points as well, really slows when pushing through the curve, which surprised me with LGBs reputation

Rob are you sure it is the gearing ? Only I have found that the skates can sometimes stick so instead of rising smoothly they stick lifting the wheels sliightly and spoilong the adheasion

Phil Thanks that's a possability - will add it to the list of things to check, when i strip it down.

Its the quartering/cog alignment.
I had one that wasn't assembled properly at the factory.
Undo the base plate of the gearbox and carefully check the alignment.

Once the motion is properly in line it will run smoothly as you would expect.

Think I best brave the snow and fetch this loco down from the wood shed
and have a good look at it while this thread is still warm so to speak.

Thanks Merv for bringing this one up

Mine is exactly the same! Fine on the straight and R3s, but binds on R1s. Reading this thread, I'm beginning to wonder if the factory produced a poor batch. The problem goes away if the con rods are removed, so presumably either the outer drivers are out of alignment or there's a problem with the idler crank. The loco runs smooth as silk when the con rods are removed!
