New Remote Control G Scale Garden Steam Engine Locomotive Sounds 45mm Track

It's the Newquida loco.

I wouldn't pay that much for one....

Would be better value at sub £100. I think they were around £80 when they first came on sale a few years ago.
I paid about £120 for loco plus two coaches plus oval of plastic track (didn't really want the track).

Mine works ok (after a little fettling). It has some degree of proportional speed control (better when the transmitter battery is fresh). You can switch it to just run continuously without using the transmitter. I got over two hours running out of the supplied battery last time I ran it. The sound is irritating, I don't bother with it. I replaced the blue LED lights with something more realistic.

I'm looking for the "hangs-is-head-in-despair-saying-not-that-palaver-again" emoticon. :tmi:

Zenner in Germany "rebuild" these into something much more useable, metal wheels, better control and batteries etc.... of course you then pay that much extra for them!

If you want to get started with a cheap R/C battery loco (with sound!), then the little Playmobil yellow diesel is a much better bet - and even cheaper than the Newqida toy.

I admit I bought a second hand set.. Ages ago, when first starting out..
I charged it up. Ran it once. Had a look inside. Boxed it up, and it has sat on a shelf since..

If you want a cheap intro.. Get the Playmobil set!!
*This is not a cheap hobby*

That's OK.. The only stupid question, is the one not asked..

We have all made mistakes, so are just trying to save you from your first! ;)

They look 'the business', as they are probably made from rip-off LGB moulds (or copy moulds from an LGB model).. Plastic wheels, nasty motor, HORRIBLE electronics (sorry, I deal with electronics!), not enough weight..

As it stands.. All I can think of doing with mine, is rusting it up and putting it in a siding, as a scrap engine waiting to be cut-up.

Don't fret about it Dave?

We are all here to learn and help each other.

I have one and like Nick, I have fettled mine.

It was brought as a present for me.

Works okay for the money, but as mentioned previously I personally wouldn't pay the price being asked....

Don't worry about it, Dave - you weren't to know, but these Newquida locos have been around for a good few years and arouse some rather strong opinions in some quarters..... as Phil, Giz and others have mentioned above, they are just not very good; by all means buy one if you want one, but be aware of what you're getting (and look around for a better price!) - but if you want a serious loco there are much better options out there even at the budget end of the market.

Jon.

I have only just come across this thread. I will only say that I used to retail this locomotive a few years back and a significant proportion arrived damaged or non-working - two remote control units were in pieces! You do get what you pay for and I stopped selling the Locomotive when the distributors were unable to give me any assurances that the quality would be improved. Things may have changed but I would advise extreme caution.

Don't seem to see the ICE3 sets that NQD also made coming up for sale these days? (not that I'm actively looking). I've never seen on in the flesh, no idea how the motor block compares to the proper LGB version.

In every video I've ever seen the NQD unit has the same steam sounds as the 2-6-2! Don't think I've seen a comparison on NQD .v. LGB like a few folk went deeply into.

I have been given one of these but it is missing the centre wheels.

I quit like the body outline so I am planning to kitbash it something along the lines of, made in my railways boilermakers/fitters shop.

Will probably will forced buy a good motor block to put under it or if I find a set of wheels go that way.

I think it will be good retirement project or a great missile as it hurtles towards the bin. ;) ;) ;)

Having had a few bits of Newquid in my time, some from twojags (nice to see that you are still interested) I do concur re the Quality. Howeveer I do wonder if one (of the 2-6-2's) can be got cheeply enough in working order how well they might be for a total removal of Electronics. Particularly that drated 'Music' . Then installation of RC, perhaps a Deltang setup with a Spoerer Sound Card. Certainly for less than a £100 something might be done to make a worthwhile loco. But would it be worth it? I aim to do something like that with mine, it will become 99-6002. Well once my roundtuit is in working order.

As for the other stuff, Wagons and Coaches with replacement Bachmann Metal Wheels and genuine LGB Couplings have been putting in sterling service on my line for some Years now.
