Interesting to see (just noticed) that Roundhouse are now apparently outshopping all models with matt smokeboxes and rooves and are painting the domes on the Katie Billy and Lady Anne. The smokebox change should really improve the look but im not sure if I want to lose my brass dome!

I asked them to paint the dome on my Katie when I ordered her. They were happy to oblige. I do think it looks much better.

For the amount you pay for a Roundhouse loco this should be optional when you order the loco. Personally I like the brass domes.

Roundhouse will do some paintwork variations if asked, and I would be amazed if a request for an unpainted dome is ignored. After all, it is actually less work for them!
I've just ordered for a customer a blue Darjeeling that will have a black boiler, as per the full-size locos. This will be the second one they have painted for me like this, and at no extra charge.
Personally, I have no feeling one way or the other about painted or unpainted domes. Unpainted wheels are a different matter...

One of my Fowlers came with painted wheels, the other bare metal, never did work out why, unless they ran out of time to have some more painted.
