New Version Bachmann Lyn - Wiring Query

Morning All,

Although the above locomotive comes with a wiring connection diagram, it does not identify the wire functions for the different colours. On my locomotive, wires have come adrift from the PCB in the smokebox on which the polarity and smoke generator switches are mounted. I believe the 4-pin connector with the thicker black, grey, orange and red wires are the polarity wires for the motor which determines which direction it rotates and therfore which direction the loco will trundle off in - hence the poliarity switch. I presume I could connect these together permanently by-passing the switch as I'm only going to run in standard large scale mode.

I do not know the functions for the thinner 8-pin connector wires so cannot tell whether they are vital or not. As I'm not interseted in DCC, sound, smoke or the front light my inclination is to leave this plug disconnected from the chassis provided it still moves. Does anyone know what the functions of the wires are by colour?

Thanks,

Tony.

For the 4 pin connector, if we assume Bachmann have used the standard NMRA DCC wire colours: Red & Black are the feed from the track pickups, Orange & Grey are the feed to the motor. You could connect Red to Orange and Black to Grey to bypass the switch (if the loco goes the wrong way connect Red to Grey, Black to Orange). Before you do anything, use a meter to verify!

Although they do indeed supply a wiring diagram they do not identify what the various functions are in relation to the wire colours.
