Newbe question - How can I tell if a Stainz has sound/smoke

I want to start off a LGB railway with a 2nd hand LGB Stainz with sound/smoke.
But how can a newbe tell if a Stainz has sound/smoke ?

Is the sound switchable, if so, how?
Where in the UK can I buy suitable smoke oil ?

The vast majority of newer Stainz (with plastic valve gear) have sound and smoke. One that does not is numbered 3 - this was done for a cheap set.
There is a switch on the back of the firebox.
Smoke oil from most of the regular retailers like Dragon G Scale or Kent Garden Rail (other retailers are available!) or get to a show.

Not really sure how to tell if it has sound or smoke but I can help with the other questions......

There is a switch inside the cab on the back head with 3 positions off, on& on with sound/smoke

And now is the best time for MAKING your own smoke oil...... 50% citronella oil 50% BBQ lighting fluid works just as well as any other ,its cheaper and it keeps the mozzies away:rolf::rolf:

Welcome we like pictures and Fred is normally the person to blame for anything and everything!!!

Some of the older Stainz locos have the smoke controlled from underneath by moving a small arm that contacts the base of the smoke stack. The home made mixture works well, just read the precautions on the Citronella oil.
