RC PCB will go in the cab...

so getting there.

Hi MalOz, newbie here as well, your builds are coming along well, I am doing a scratch built shunter as well and would like to know what the motor you are using is, gear train and
to paraphrase an old commercial here .. Where'd you get it ?

I like the multi-media approach :clap::clap:
Beggars can't be choosers ! ... I didn't know where to start really so an MDF chassis based on the original Meccano prototype (see below) seemed a good place to start. I had enough Meccano for another drive train too. For the 06 body I needed to learn the black magic involved working with styrene so I could get the details I want. I basically followed my nose really from a lot of photos.

This is the original 'prototype' chassis I based the current 06 on. Luckily the 06 chassis is a very similar format.
The body of this one is all 3mm MDF. I had to put rubber bands on the front drive wheels to reduce slippage and added some extra weight to the front.
Runs well now albeit resembling Frankenstein's creation :)

This is where this whole scratch-building caper started...

Full meccano chassis and drive chain - you can see the worm/pinion at the front. I had to make a 'battery wagon' for it

You can see the end of motor here...

Hi, thanks. Ok the drive chain is basically a 2000rpm 6VDC brushed motor running a 15:1 worm drive. Final axle speed is 133rpm. It's not the fastest set up but probably ok for a shunter.

Here is a quick clip of the early days of the chassis showing the motor and battery pack. The gears are standard Meccano Worm and pinion direct driving the rear wheels (the smallest 15tooth pinion)....it's all I had. The shaft of the motor fits Meccano gears nicely.

BR 06 Chassis Test

Now the motor came from ebay. The fastest this chap has on his website was 1360rpm. I tried that at first but was too slow. So I spoke to him via ebay messaging and he managed to re-gear a couple to 2000rpm whilst not dropping too much torque. I am sure if you asked he may do the same for you if the motor is suitable.

Here is the link to the motor on ebay (6VDC Motor).

Here is a quick vid of the 2000rpm motor with some load.. Fowler Loco and two wagons using 6VDC 2000rpm motor

Happy to see people getting into scratch building. I have been doing trains all my life. Started G scale in 96. Was out of it for about 10 years. Now getting back into it and finishing many projects that were started years ago. I am someone with to many hobbies
That is a petty good drive train. The outer shell will look good once sealed and painted

Ok.....

Here is the loco body primed up (except for the 'L' rail above the engine room doors)...IMG_8229.JPG

Plus the four cab sides ready for window panes and gluing together...

because I am new to all this (scratch building) most of my time is spent working out how to do stuff and sequencing the build...

Appreciate the continued interest :)

It's coming together nicely Maloz, I like how the windows and doors have come out. What colour are you going with ?
