I trawled through the add in one of the banners that appears on this Forum. After very long Video Presentation that was more verbose and as repetitive as it is possible to be I did look at what may or may not be available. First this may or may not be a scam, at the end of the Vid one is offered a DVD for $49 to reduce your power bills by 80% or possibly more by building a simple device. Great but is it true?

Looking on the net there are varying warnings that this is a scam and sundry You Tube Vids showing devices that have been made in use. The one that bothered me the most was of 110v Bulbs working on close proximity to the device being powered by a 9v Battery. It cried scam scam scam but is it?

In the story of the guy there are many references to greedy power companies that tried to put him out of business with a fair degree of success. One can imagine how big business would love to kill the concept.

Back in the 60's there was talk of a Petrol Engine that could fit in a cereal box with greater power that the big Motor manufactureres killed. Another scam or was it true?

Question have any of our friends in the forum got one of the Tesla devices working?

I think they are playing on the 'Tesla legend'...

Probably about as 'real' as the internal combustion engine that ran on water..

If you want to reduce your electricity bill..
Fit LED lighting, and cover the roof in PV panels..

80% savings - got to be a scam. Now if they said 10%, I might just start believing.

I converted all the lights in my house to LED about two years ago. cost a fortune and not convinced I am seeing that much of a benefit to be honest, I am using less electricity for lights but I have noticed rooms that used to run 4 0r 6 Halogens bulbs are cooler in the winter time now. Would love to save 80% of my bills .
My brother worked for a small engineering company in the 70s that invented a device that when fitted to a petrol engine would greatly increase it's millage after it was shown to a couple of car company's they bought the rights and patent to it and shelved it

I'd have expected the car manufacturers themselves to love something like that, especially if one of them owned the patent - it would be the oil industry that would want to kill it.....

Looked at Tesla cars this weekend in Cambridge. Charging is only 1 hour if you go for the all singing charging unit, but the one most folks will buy will be the one that take 13 hours to charge.

Lots of 'claims' about how much running costs are, with an 'example' of electricity hourly rate.

You would need to do your home work carefully if you wanted to make sure the costs were worth it....

I have converted most of my lights to Led. In truth I did a few when I was at Hemel and moved them with me leaving the old heavy burn things in the old House when I left. I have been buying odds from Lidl as they come in to convert the rest of my current House with new Led Spots etc. I usually change the complete lighting in any House I live in. Only one not done is my main Bedroom Light as I like a nice bright light and Led does not do that or so I thought. Though I have now discovered (thanks to Humplet) Corn on The Cob bulbs which are very nice and bright but expensive. May invest in a couple for the Bedroom and Workshop for when the current bulbs goes pop. Then I will need to think about the Neon's in the Shed and Loft. But will need pretty good lights in the Shed, however Led does move from strength to strengh in the brightness legue.

Hi All I have led's throughout the house and have also fitted a 5Kw solar system with a battery backup some of you may be aware that here in the land downunder we are currently suffering from some of the most expensive power prices in the world courtesy of our idiot politicians our winter bill per quarter has in the past been up to $1200 for the 3 months the last quarter bill was less than $250 around an 83% reduction and thats in the middle of our winter the system is only operating at about half of its capacity at the moment it will only get better. I am using the LG chem battery we looked at the Tesla but the LG had a greater capacity in a smaller footprint, greater number of recharge cycles, less degradation each year so a longer life. My goal is to have the power companies paying me in the summer months and offsetting my costs for winter.

Politician to the public "If we sell of the power companies, banks etc greater competition will drive prices down and we can build a new freeway in Sydney"
Public "sounds like a good idea go for it"
Power companies "lets get together and set a price as high as we can get without to much backlash"
Politicians "Don't blame us we only did what you asked for and we have no control over prices set by companies"

Welcome to the brave new world folks.

Going the same way Alan, have 10kw of solar panels on the roof and waiting for my Tesla Powerwall II to be installed shortly, fed up with our power prices being the highest in the world!!!!

Regarding energy costs. When I was in the ninth grade, my electric shop teacher told us that someday, because of nuclear power, electricity will be almost free. That was 1961. I think the joke was on us. That said, appliances are becoming more efficient, albeit at a slower pace then we would like. They are also less expensive than those sold way back when, when one considers a TV for example was a couple hundred dollars back then.

The bottom line is that those who really run the world are in control of everything and they set the pace of progress.

Dan,

When I attended college in the late 70s the economic tutor told us that in the future we would all have increased leisure time due to automation. Looking back I can only assume that 'increased leisure time' was a euphemism for redundancy and unemployment.

As for Atomic Power: it was the miracle thing back in 1961. Everything was going to be atomic powered and wonderful, look at how it was portrayed in TV series like Thunderbirds. However no one had forseen the safety and legacy costs associated with it, let alone the difficulty and ever increasing cost of building any atomic power plant anywhere, except perhaps China and North Korea?

I am looking forward to us all being able to buy the MrFusion device from Back to the Future. I hope to power my Hoverboard with it.

James

Yes politicians are idiots generally speaking.

However guys, the Tesla battery is real and yes in a new house with Cree lights and very high insulation levels, you can come off the national grid.

It is now, it is real.
Solar PV plus Tesla batteries gives you this.

When all the ultra conservative house builders wake up along with the general public, new houses will be in another league compared to any house built before 2000.

I know this because I work as a project manager in the building industry and in a past career I designed and built houses.

You could go off the grid with conventional batteries and solar 20 years ago... even 30...

Greg

Yes, but you needed a hair-shirt, and to be a bit 'on the edge' to do it I reckon??

All getting a little more 'middle-class', with technology making the whole thing easier and more main-stream..

With the present reporting of 'white-goods' causing fires, not sure I want a 'dish-washer' size box of Li-Po's in the kitchen though??
Also, mine being a 1950's semi, there ain't the room!

It'll be interesting to see how the oil companies deal with electric powered cars in the future, I have no doubt they have been working on how to exploit the market to suit them........................:wait:

PS Nicola Tesla..............genius.............
