Noise, Massoth Power Pack Micro

I have equipped a Spreewald with an LS decoder bought spring 2016. This week I have equipped the Spreewald with a Power Pack Mini. When the power is switched off, there is a lot of noise, like a machinegun, until the power pack is empty. I have changed the power pack with a brand new one, and again the noise starts when the power is switched off. There is no difference between the two buffers, so it cannot be the power buffers that fails. Can there be a problem with the LS decoder? It works all right, runs without any problem. Only instant noise when the power is turned off.

The buffer should (amongst other things) keep the sound going for a time after power is removed.. Or loco lifted off the track.

Have you connected the control wire 'BC', as well as decoder plus and minus?
Have you turned off analogue in CV 29?
Have you changed CV's 129 and 130 at all? - Buffer runtime digital and analogue respectively.
Have you set CV 236, the 'Power Buffer timer'? - This should be set to '250' (for a start) for a steam loco.

Thank you for your reply. The wires are connected as shown in the manual, White to BC, red to + and black to - .
The CV 29 is set to 0.
CV 129 and CV 130 are both set to 0 as far as I remember, but I will look it up. How about the value in these two CVs?
I am sorry to say, but I have not noticed CV 236, as you tell I will set it to 250.

Kind regards
NIels

That all sounds very interesting. I fitted a Massoth Sound Buffer, an early smaller one to my LGB Steam Tram With a Sound Box and a 55021 Chip, only problem was that the Sound Box kept chuffing when the Loco Stopped. Not quite what I was hoping for. I wonder what CV's needed changing on that Conversion? I disconnected it in disgust! But with advice am am prepared to have another go.

All the CVs are correct so I wrote tio Massoth for some advice. Peter Ting (Massoth) tells that it is a well known bug. If it is well known why don´t Massoth tell? well, here is the correspondance -

Dear Mr. Braunstein,

My PC Module is a 8175001, maybe it is too old to work with the new Service tool?

No, this is no problem.

About the LS decoder – in CV 7 is ”value 36” readable, suppose it means ver. 3.6?

Yes

I bought the LS decoder spring 2016 – is it an old firmware then?

Meanwhile yes. We have now V 4.0.

Besides I only got two manuals, one for “Version 3.55” and one for “version 3.7 and later”, I do not remember which one is delivered with this LS decoder, because I installed an XLS decoder + a maxi buffer in another LGB lok April this year– no problem at all.

You can find the newest manuals at our WIKI
http://wiki.massoth.de/index.php/Kategorie:DLC/en

So, i suggest you upgrade first your firmware and then the new soundfile for that version.

Best regards

Peter Ting

Dear Mr. Braunstein,

this is a known bug with older firmware.
Are you able to update your decoder to the newest firmware with a PC Module and our Massoth service tool?

The advice from Massoth/Peter Ting about the update of the decoder worked all right. It took some time, especially checking all the CVs again to ensure that all the CVs were the same as before the update.
