Hi all, has anyone attempted to make their own smoke fluid. Is it safe to do so or just another non-starter?

Rob

50/50 Barbie fluid and Citronella Oil - no problems.

I am sure it works Mick. In fact I know it does - I have seen it. But is it worth it.
A smoke unit is over 20 quid and a lot of hassle to replace, whilst a bottle LGB fluid is about 9 quid and in my case lasts about a year and I use it regularly - several times a week.
What is going to work out cheaper. I cant say that home made will blow your smoke unit quicker - but is it really worth it for a very few quid.

There are lots of discussions around this on the web. The more interesting ones suggest not to use oil at all but the stuff used in disco foggers which is essentially water. Problem with any oil based product is that they are carcinogenic so ought to be ok outside but need to be used carefully inside. Homemade product mixes are your own risk!

Yes, I too use this and it works really well, and smokes a bit more densely than LGB
and it is my preference for running outside.
However, while it doesnt harm the plastic-it does, unlike LGB , leave a thin, ever so slightly oily film on plastic. Not bad, but compared to LGB it is noticeable (LGB , when spilled dries absolutley clean -and does completely and fully disappate/evaporate).

Relevance? Well i imagine this stuff could build up on internal boards and the like with spiling or it seeping in between the stack and the smoke unit insert.

However, I've used this concoction for a couple of years now, despite still having a healthy stash of LGB at hand.
I dont use the home brew inside, for reasons above noted. It basically has the odor of burning wax , and, i can say that it leaves a bit of air born residue, like frying bacon, (because i did use the home brew, being impressed with the density, for a while in a small indoor layout and noticed a film building up on the overhead flourescent fixtures, fwiw.
