One motor works the other dont???

Help.......
Following buying "another" 2091 and tried double heading the older one has a problem..........
One motor works fine the other "stutters" with the weight of just the loco , upside down it still "stutters" but with a push of a wheel it spin up to speed , had the motor block out and looked at every thing and seems ok , , had the motor out seperatley.... power up with bench psu and fine no problem
So come you experts what's up???
 
If one coil is out in the motor, it will run after a fashion, but wont take much load. Did you grasp the spindle when it was runnin to see if there was any pull ?

Mmmm just had the motor out again:rolleyes:
and perhaps everything isnt fine.... wouldn't work with psu until i gave the shaft a little nudge then tried gripping the spinning shaft,,, but had to let go as it spun with out any problem
now is it fixable??

No the new one is fine its the older one which has had a fair few mile on (it even in my ownership ;) )
 
Does your Navi have a current draw indication on it Ed?

IF so, is it pulling high Amps?

Might need the motor cleaning up, especially if its been over lubricated....

on my psu display at 18volts its pulling 0.06amps going to 0.58amps when the shaft is gripped....
 
Yeah, it could be a dirty commutator/worn brushes. Look for any crud in the slots between the commutator segments too.
 
New member Facade posted an excellent guide on dismantling LGB motors earlier this week....

Well following my original posting several p.m's suggested one name..........
One Mr Neil Robinson
So correspondence was sent to the god of motor revival and shortly my problematic motor was dispatched to north Leicestershire, and was duly stripped down given a squirt of elixir and put back together.
I can report that its back in the loco and currently "light engine" at the mo and getting itself about!!!!
