I know these little cars are not everybody's cup of tea, however I think they make a nice rake for the Roundhouse "Little John" locomotive. The cars require passengers which I will be adding shortly. I have fitted Binnie buffers to all three cars.

Nothing wrong with those at all, Casey - every small preserved line needs its tourist trade.... :)

As you say, they will look much better with a reasonable load of passengers - as the figures will be so visible (compared to normal closed coaches) it might be worth splurging a little (oo-er....) on some really nice figures (Preiser, Prehm, Scenecraft etc) with good paintjobs rather than using the Chinese knock-off ones - or if you do go the Oriental Cheapies route then at least go for the much better-finished types that are currently available:

Jon, I will be visiting Glendale Junction later in the week, they have a great choice of figures. I tend not to skimp on figures.

Sounds good to me! I came home with a nice bundle of figures after my last visit to Glendale too.
The Chinese ones in that link are actually quite good (certainly compared with what they produced a couple of years ago), I've bought several lots of them recently and the painting of them, while not up to Preiser standard, is very acceptable.

I've painted plenty of the plain figures for one of my friends. I think my painting skills are very good and I do like painting. However I think that I will settle for a number of high end figures.

Nice little Cars Casey, ideal for your setup. I bet the kids love them.

Re the cheepo Chinees Figures, I tend to use them mostly in Carriages. You can find the odd use inside perhaps waiting for the loo or standing chatting to another seated Passenger or just stood on a Balcony end. With a reapaint you can lift them out of the doldrums. I know Casey has been painting figures like the task is going out of fashion so perhaps the odd Cheepo will find a place somewhere.

I once owned a dozen or so of those sight-seeing cars. I still have a few. They show off the passengers well.

Very nice, Casey! Those Prehm figure sets are good, I picked up a set of each last time I was at Glendale.
I really do like the idea of fixing them with velcro - the black tape looks fine on the seats (just looks like seat cushions) and it's a brilliant way of keeping the figures in place without glueing them down permanently!

Jon.

Velcro has been my preferred method of fixing figures for a couple of years now. I can move figures from coach to coach and can also change eras if it suits.

It's such an obviously clever solution now you've mentioned it - I just hadn't seen it done before!
I've tended to use clear silicone craft glue, which can be peeled off cleanly if you want to remove the people (eg before selling a coach if you want to re-use the passengers), but of course doesn't make swapping them around as easy as the velcro....

Velcro seat cushions: what a brilliant solution!

(And like all the best ideas, really obvious when you think about it...).

They look great. I too like them with small locos. They have a distinct amusement park look to their design.

I like the end lantern. Nice railroady detail.

You have a great layout Casey!

Casey,

I second that, at risk of going off topic (I have previous convictions for this....) how long has it taken you to get your layout looking so 'together'? Everything looks so neat, as though it has always been there!

James, the CFR has been in existence at its present location for seventeen years. It's still an ongoing project with various areas that need developing. The old adage that a railway is never completed is very true.

Thanks for the kind comments gentlemen.
