Piko Battery housings

Hi guys
I have burnt out one of my housings and now only have two housings for three 25T piko diesels.
My question is what are my alternatives as Piko don’t seem to have any, bearing in mind I am not electrical savvy.

Hello Michael,
Welcome to the Forum!

There is a company called Strikalite, who can supply you with a made-up pack of rechargeable batteries for the Piko 25 tonner.. - it comes with a suitable lead, to charge the pack (the individual cells are not removable), so I would suggest that you also purchase the smart charger from them, as well.

Tell them Phil from RC Trains sent you.

Take a look at this companies offerings. This one in particular looks close.

NOTE:
The Piko 25 Tonner takes AAA batteries, and not AA..

But the holders are available..

What caused the burn out?

how outside?
Take your pick:

Battery packs lipped into a pocket, coins or keys.

Dropped into loco carrier, or tool bag, any metal object.

Charging cells in a holder. - Not a short, normally a weak sprung connector, so a higher resistance.

My favourite;
Having both Lithium and NiMH batteries, being risk-averse, so storing in a metal container..
The Lithium were fine, but the uninsulated lugs on the battery holder shorted on the inside of the metal container..

Hullo Michael,

I've actually had one of these on order from Gaugemaster since 20 Feb, as I wanted an extra one for Mizzy's Clean machine.

The Piko Part Number is 38501-23.

I also brought the Strikalite pack and Smart Charger that PhilP refers to in post #2. However, I've found that this pack is slightly too small and doesn't fit snugly inside the loco bonnet. Hence my purchase of a second holder so I can have one charged and one in use....
