PIKO TEE vehicles

Please excuse an innocent question from a relative newcomer to the wonders of G scale.

PIKO do an excellent model of a Deutsche Bahn TEE unit, which I have one of. The model is a three-set, with one centre car, a first class trailer. PIKO offer additional first class trailers as a separate item, and also a "buffet" named Helvetia, although in practice the vehicle is just an adaptation of the first class trailer product rather than a true representation of an original buffet.

But there is excellent YouTube footage of seven car or eight car model TEE units running on what I assume is a German club layout. These model sets include not only much more realistic buffet restarant cars but also exampkes of the second class cars, with their distinctive numerous windows. Does anyone know whether these second class cars are available, or are they scratchbuilt models built by the club? I would very much like to obtain some second class cars, but suspect that no one makes them in G, even as kits.

Any information much appreciated.

Hi David, can you post a link to the video you've seen? I don't have the Piko G TEE set (only the Roco N gauge version!) so I'm interested to see what they've done to create a full set.

Yes a link would be interesting. I was chatting to Andrew at Cheltenham Garden Railway Centre- maybe give him a buzz, he seemed to know the product well.

I fancy one for an express service at the CR!

Thanks. I am not quite sure how to transfer the link to this thread, but if you do a google search on........

Spur 1 IGMA Oktober 2011 VT11.5 KM1

.....you should find it. They operate two units, a seven set and an eight set, with sound, very impressive. But those second class trailers in these sets have me baffled, unless they are very well made scratchbuilt models.

Is it not significant that the YouTube video was uploaded on 31 October 2011 . . . and the Piko version was not released until December 2012? Unless the club was able to get hold of TWO pre-production prototypes, doesn't this suggest that the entire units were scratch-built?

We have a video of the TEE with the extra restaurant car running at the CFR, it is an impressive unit, another car is on order fron Dragon to make it more prototypical, it has a locsound V4 sound decoder installed so it can run on analogue and still have sound, the Piko decoder does not give sound on analogue in my experience.

Thanks, i think the fact that you have drawn my attention to, that the videoclip predates the release of the PIKO model, answers my query, and that they must be scratchbuilt models. But if that is the case, they are amazing.

I really do hope that sales of the PIKO product prove sufficiently encouraging for them to do the second class vehicles too, as a follow-on.

Thanks to all.

It's not necessarily a scratch-built model : could be the KM Modelbau expensive brass model. Complete 7 car set only 8,500 euros - only they're all sold out!

Thanks, just looked up KM1 Modellbau, it certainly looks as though this is what I have seen, as you can clearly see both first class and second class cars in the advertisement.

As for price, whether it is sold out or not will be academic in my case, sadly!

Mystery solved, and in less than 24 hours, too, thankyou.

Couldn't view the youtubes while at work but google showed the associated text, and the clue was where at least one of them mentioned KM1 VT11.5 (I'd also tried searching Maerklin Spur 1 in case they'd made one).

To replicate my N gauge 10 car set I'd have to have the 7 car set + the 3 car expansion: but not at that price! Looks lovely, though.

I'd certainly like to see one of these PIKO TEE sets 'in the flesh', so to speak!

Anyone near me have one yet....
