Playmobil 5258 - is this loco faulty?

I received my Playmobil 5258 set yesterday.
However, I find that the link between RC and the loco is temperamental.

The manual says once both RC and loco are switched on, I should press CH button on both RC and loco to synchronize. Sometimes it works fine and sometimes it doesn't work. The lights on loco and RC keep on blinking. The guide says if that happens it means low battery but I have tried with new batteries!

After several attempts suddenly it establishes a connection and loco runs fine. Then when I take the battery out and try to reconnect, again same problem.

:crying:

Mobi, if you have followed the instructions for matching and the problem persists then you have a fault. We at the CFR have six of these nice little locomotives and have had no problems with matching any of them either singly or in multiple. I would suggest that you return it to your dealer and get a replacement.

Just a question (from someone who doesn't have one of these locos) - do you need to do this "synching" process every time you run the loco, or are you supposed to have to do it just once when first operating it from new?

Jon.

Mobi, we at the CFR have found that you only need to match up if you remove the battery from the transmitter.

To Casey Jones,
Are all of them as bought or have you done any mods.? I also bought the set recently and I was surprised at the quality for the price
and the pulling power. The only mod I did was to fill in the vents with a black fine fibre pen, looks better, and more natural. needed two or three goes to get a good colour as the fibre tip pen ink tends to go gray as it dries.

Some modifications done. One repaint, roofs on 4 shortened. Horns fitted on some. Here is a picture of some of them at the start of modification.

I wonder if plastic wheels will wear out quickly if run on metal track. 8|

No evidence of that from the plastic wheels supplied as standard on Playmobil rolling stock. Metal wheels are generally preferred not for longevity, but since they don't gather crud onto themselves, nor spread it around the track. They also sound better!
