Hi Guys,

Just thought you may want to see what a £200 pile of internet aluminium and 4 days work can look like :D

This side of my 16mm railway was a bit boring and falling into next door's garden! So I decided to add a feature and correct the list at the same time. It is not finished just yet. It still needs two pillars under the arch ends as well as 'setting' into the newly made, rounded brick ends, plus painting. All will be finished in time for my next open day this coming Saturday (I hope!!)

way to go, man thinking same as me:thumbup:

Hi again Rob
Can you tell us what size the structural tray/channel is please? And where you found it online - please, please.

I'll get back to you in detail when my daughter is out of hospital :(

Hi,
OK, my daughter is now out of hospital and I'm home again, I hope, this time to stay.

The alloy came form a UK alluminium suplier down south via the net.
The main channel is 12mm x 50mm, the plate is 2.5mm thick (width depends on the bridge, in my case 250mm) and the under 'L' is 15mm x 15mm. It's just all pop rivited together :)

All most finished. I'll post pics when it is :)

That's a fine piece of work - I'm looking forward to seeing a picture of a train on it. Will you be drilling drain holes in the deck channel? I imagine a good shower would dump quite a bit of water on it that would need somewhere to go in a hurry.

Hi,

Yes, I'll put about 5 1/2" holes per side. The bridge is on a very slight uphill anyway. So I'm going to leave a 1/2" gap in the ballast where the holes will be down both sides of the floor, making like a channel.

I was told of a new silicon glue that builders use. It can be used like PVA, but it lasts much longer?? Needs moor looking into, but it should help water displacement into the side channels, I hope.

Its nice piece of symetrical engineering and looks to have had a received a lot of attention to detail:thumbup:

And, glad to hear your daughter is on the mend.

glad daughters ok... nice paint job!

Yes,

My Daughter is doing OK. She has been home for two days and is feeling much better :)

Thanks :)

The painting really alters the appearance and it looks even better:thumbup:

Like the abutment walls and piers - are they laid miniature blocks (certainly looks that way)?

Hi,

The blocks are just bath room tile blocks stuck on with weatherproof PVA mixed with french chalk to give stiffness. At some point soon, I'm going to weather the blocks down and paint matt varnish on them to seal them up. I think they are a bit 'new looking' and yellow. Right now it looks like it was built in Bath during the 18 hundreds :D

The first train ever will be passing over it TODAY !!!! :):):)
It will be the Motty diesel with 11 Binnie tippers :)
Then everthing else:)
I'll take a pics.

Rob.

They look good though. That's a useful tip adding filler to the glue:thumbup:
