Evening guys, just had a delivery from Germany of my first brand new purchase.

All looked ok in the box, but... Have Marklin tried to save money be removing features or is it faulty?
Both pantographs are in the up position, and running the loco in either direction, neither will lower. Have the motors been removed on these newer versions? I do hope not. And a minor note was that the dashboard LED's don't flash like on my other older version... Not fussed with lights but want working pans. Have tried the switch in the 4 positions but none make any difference to the pan situation.

Re:Postman bears big red box!!

As Mike says, a lovely loco, but I couldn't find any mention of powered pantographs on this one anywhere either.....

Jon.

Edit: sorry, Mike posted his second answer while I was typing mine....

I don't see why retrofitting should not be possible, if previous versions of this model had operating pantos then powered ones certainly should fit - or it might be cheaper to use a couple of micro-servos to drive the pantos supplied with the loco rather than buying new LGB motorised ones - many decoders, including Massoth's, now offer servo drive functions for just this sort of thing.

Fail... :(
Can I retro fit do you know? Was planning on fitting DCC when it arrives in the post, and wanted it linking to the pans.
possably..if you can get the missing bits ... 8|..the mouldings for the stuff will be the same, but it looks like lgb ,have relised it as a simpler version off the working one.. they have done this before, its not a new thing..

It didn't even occur to me that basically the same model could have different spec inside apart from the obvious MTS and/or sound fitted... Retro-fit possible?
unfortuantly.. you have nailed it.. differnt versions off a simimliar class off loco..if its not stated in the discription..it wont be included ..the parts diagram might hold some clues

Re:Postman bears big red box!!

Thanks Andy, my savings account has just quivered.. :crying:

Re:Postman bears big red box!!

Ok so I'm ruling out operating the pan's in dc track mode, but once I'm DCC, can I drive the pan motor stright off a ESU chip?
So from the drawing of Mikes loco, if I can purchase part number 31, 32, 33 and some 36 screws, with some home made relay boards I reckon I could get them to work. I'd have thought that I'd need two motor sets although the drawing only shows one and looks like its fitted in the middle of the roof?? I can see my older version of this loco coming apart later for investigations...

Re:Postman bears big red box!!

andy .. if you have a working version ..i think youd be best haveing a look see 1st ..

Re:Postman bears big red box!!

Lgb economycut backs. I have COOP and that didn't come with working pantographs either.
So don't think you have been short changed.
If you want try Modelland.de they had some spares parts for them.
I took mine off the MOB version which involved turning them around

Re:Postman bears big red box!!

You should require the 2 micro switch board x 2 possibly the gears and two motors they work on e two wire system working them through one or two relays depending on how you want to work them. Oh by the way i did mine with DC off the dcc board

Re:Postman bears big red box!!

Just checked Modell-land, they only seem to list the plastic body, not the motor or switch PCB... Where else might sell them?
Got my other loco in bits now, looks a nice easy job to fit. Looking at some of the drawings Mike attached, these motors should be 6core cabled and link into another PCB in the roof. This loco doesn't have that extra PCB, just the 2 wires, so is straight forward reversing polarity. The switch boards do have 2 diodes soldered on - are these factory fit or added to make it work on 2 wire control? My DCC plan was to have one function raise and lower one pan and another function to raise and lower the other as my old loco is set up.

Re:Postman bears big red box!!

19volt

Re:Postman bears big red box!!

Thanks for the link. Do all the LGb locos that have a powered cantilever pan use the same parts? Are they really 19V? I thought they raise/lower the pans at quite low speed/voltage? Just looking at the switch PCB- I recon i could make one if I have to.

Re:Postman bears big red box!!

As I put above all parts common . just need two micro switches with a common link but I don't think the pinion to the rack is there.. Have you got a GE 44 2 or 3 already? to cheat off

Re:Postman bears big red box!!

So comparring my older LGB version over this Marklin version, they really have stripped it out. On the older version, theres a 10 core ribbon cable going to the cabs for controlling the flashing dashboard lights. New version makes do with just 2 cores so all the lights are either on or off. The main PCB is also about half the size.
And the pinion wheel isn't in the roof of the new one, so motor and pinion are required. As mentioned in my wanted thread, I'll be trying Chalk next week to see what bits they have.
