Quadruple header propels wagons towards museum doors

It is interesting to note that the following Accucraft models are now being 'temporarily discontinued'. This means there is no further production booked with the factory and the models will be off to the museum for a long rest. Some of them may get another batch built in a year or two, we will have to see.

Once existing stocks are sold the following are going to the museum for a rest:

Lyn
WD Baldwin
Caledonia live steam & electric
Countess live steam & electric - possibly only until 2013
W&L flat wagons
W&L bolster wagons
W&L 1 plank wagons

This is happening for the simple reason you can't keep everything ever invented in stock for ever - the planet would be totally covered in warehouses! Space is required for all the new items already in the pipeline.

Happy steamings,

John

Is this true for US outline models as well?

Seems sensible to me- and not an unexpected selection either- all from the top end of the range and- with the exception of the W&L Beyers, all engines you are only likely to buy one of! Lyn of course has already gone and come back the once.

Wagons don't seem to be hugely popular- probably because the other W&L wagons are rather larger so you need less to make up a reasonable sized train!

[unsubtle hint]With all this warehouse space cleared, and the W&L flagships being given a rest, I wonder if "Joan" will make a comeback...[/unsubtle hint]

I don't think she was especially popular first time round, but she very rarely appears second hand- and with the increased amount of W&L stock available since she was last in the catalogue I suspect there would be more takers this time round.

Can I echo Matt's comments re Joan's comeback. I've been looking fior one of these for years but they never appear secondhand and given that the prototype is working again I'm sure it would be a popular loco.

Whilst the chassis is in the works, could a body off an S&K Bagnall be designed to fit too?! Same wheelbase and would match Leader and superior nicely.

Ah, yes, well, good point Brian, in theory possibly there is no reason why Joan perhaps couldn't make a comeback one day, maybe, possibly even in an 'enhanced' form, if we are lucky, and all the required planets come into alignment.

Mind you there are also some other very nice locos on the W&L that would also be in theory possibly very appealing perhaps maybe?

Happy steamings,

The electric LYN seems to have disappeared off of track shack too.......
Did I miss something? :(
Good point Mr 2 sheds, I have written to the people who expressed an interest in an electric Lyn explaining that it has been shelved. I didn't think to add it to the list of things going off to the museum as it never got made in the first place.

Perhaps we should all remember that in the current climate no manufacturer is likely to go into production with any new product as a 'punt' they are all going to want to see proven demand/interest. For anyone to say they are seriously interested in something is not a firm commitment, just an indication that should the item become available all things considered they would probably buy it.

Happy steamings,

John

Flippin difficult to commit to anything nowadays John :D

I know what you mean Mr 2 Sheds, what some would call ?interesting times? 8|

Paul is right, I?m sure the Bachmann Lyn contributed strongly to the death knell for Accucraft doing an electric one, however as he says there is a strong wish to make the electric Lew happen and should there be proven demand and no insurmountable technical issues we might hope to see it by the end of this year.

Happy steamings,

John

Did the L&B or W&L run any tank wagons? vans, open wagons, bogie wagons we have but there must have been some tankers? surely an opportunity for Accucraft, i for one would buy tank wagons for my L&B rakes.

The W&L didn't have any tank wagons, not sure about the L&B although I don't recall seeing any in pictures. Off the top of my head I can't think of any British NG lines that had tanker wagons originally. The IOM did introduce some in the 60s but these weren't particularly attractive (or successful). Some industrial concerns may have used tank wagons for fuel oil etc but generally they were pretty uncommon.

Why not get a few of the Andel or Swift sixteen tanker kits?
