Question about LGB 22150....

The particular edition of the ever-popular "Stainz-type with Tender", LGB 22150 (black DR livery), seems to be the "budget" edition of this loco family in that it comes WITHOUT a second motor in the tender - but can anybody tell me if the tender power pickups are still present, and if so are they linked through to the loco, or is the tender completely electrically "dead"?
Does the tender actually have a full LGB standard gearbox that just lacks a motor (and if so, can a motor simply be dropped in?), or does it just have simple free running wheelsets?

I'm thinking of buying one of these, and though I could live without the tender being motorised it would certainly be nice to have the additional power pickups, and to know whether or not I could easily motorise the tender at a later date.

Thanks,
Jon.

The picture in the 2008/9 catalog shows pickup skates on the tender but I do not see any electrical connection to the loco itself. One motor + DCC interface.

I would suspect that the axels in the tender would be plain (no cog) as in the LCE unpowered motor block.

All good intel - this is one of the locomotives my daughter identified as something she might like in the future...

The loco does come with pickups just drop in a motor, its pulling power is not so good on one motor so a second one is good mod, you could wire them together but I have found its not necessary. No smoke or sound on these models as standard either, but a replacement working smoke stack is easily fitted.
Alternatively you could hunt down a powered sound tender which would probably not cost much more than fitting a 2nd motor

A great price - and they have seven of them available in stock!

Actually, following a few mouse-clicks, they now have 6 left - the seventh is on its way to me......

Thanks for the responses, everyone!

Jon.
