Question about LGB motor

Hello all

This forum is great !!! I just joind and already had some great feedback to questions !!!! Thank you all so much . Though I will be getting a big LGB engine in teh newar future as I am a big ( over 7000 figures !!) playmobil collector, i am very keen to use my playmobil trains in my upcoming outdoor LGB track set up. I will be using the LGB JUmbo unit and therefore need to be careful not to exceed 14V as this will burn the motors in my eg 4052 train

The 4052 has two motors whereas the 4051 i have has one , identical to the two of the 4052

I have a couple of unused spare power units for these trains. I udnertsand they are indentical for the 4051 and 4052 train they are Mabuchi Motor i havent got any more information ( the motor has 10 W and ~1 A, but i have no clue ow many voltage they can take , i guess 14volts is the limit for these motors.

I wonder if keeping the 4051 nad 4052 housings i can change their motors with somehtign else that can take 24 Volts or you think they will be ok to use with 24 v ???

You can run them with a 24v controller just check the output using a meter so you know where on the dial it is putting out 12v and don't exceed it. Exceeding it briefly is unlikely to damage them but long periods of it does. In some model racing cars they used to use 9v motors as they could keep the weight down with high revs but they certainly didn't last the life of the models with 12v ones.
Another option would to be to build a voltage limiting circuit which goes between the controller and track so the track never gets the full output. A friend made one for me when we had a drive a train display so they couldn't reach full speed and tip them off the R1 curves. I'm sure someone else might bs able to suggest a circuit design, (I just used it, no idea how it works)

As Paul says (and as I recommended in your "welcome" thread), just remember not to turn up the controller too high when you're running your Playmobil locos.

To be honest, I expect the loco will fly off the track on corners if you turn it up much beyond it's normal 14 volts anyway! Just run at a "natural" speed and you'll be fine.

Hi George if you are using the LGB Jumbo, if memory serve's me right it already
has a programable min/max volt set up, so you shouldn't need to add any thing to your set up.

Edit - just found the link, posted in the reply to your Jumbo thread

Thank you all for your feedabck. The LGB JUmbo unit has hte facility to control / limit the max output to a preselected setting such as 14V ( max 24V)

I wonder on the other had on the motors that the playmobil trains have if i can directly replace them with 24 V motors or open the motors ( i have two new ones as spares ) and change the actual motors them selves ( two of them i presume on each motor block ) to stronger motors that can take 24Volts, thoughi would prewfer to leave them as they are and just buy 24V motor blocks and repalce the existing ones ( like in the link below) :

George, welcome to gscalecentral. You've got some great Playmobil locos and so my advice is just run them and enjoy them without going for speed records or weight hauling records and chopping and mucking them around. Alternatively, give could them to me. :)

It is indeed the same Playmofire!
