RCS is pleased to announce the immediate availability of a new 5 channel DSM2 TX handpiece for both Live Steam locos and battery R/C locos.

The less cluttered case has 4 x Digital Proportional servo channels and now enables "quillable" control of a live steam whistle with a fully proportional channel control. No more just ON - OFF. You can actually play it.
The TX-5 is capable of controlling both "Centre OFF ESC's and "Low OFF" ESC's.
Bind as many DSM2 equipped locos as you wish to one TX handpiece.

Neat looking bit of kit Tony. I think the big aero and car controllers look odd and just waiting to be trodden on because they are always being left on the floor.

Looking very good Tony, will they be available via Peter S or direct from you? JonD

Direct only I am afraid.
Peter Spoerer has his own line of 2.4 GHz R/C stuff nowadays.
The TX-5 will be useful mainly because a steam whistle can be "played" instead of snap action ON - OFF using the Ch # 5 bind button.
The Ch # 5 bind button is ideal for using with Kadee servo uncouplers.

Look great Tony, definatly will be getting one when I fit RC to my RH Argyll early next year. Tired of the big RC car style controlers for live steam and I just fitted a Regner whistle to my Argyll. Mike

Thanks Dodger.
I do quite well with the Live Steam market.
I think the main reason why, is I believe RCS can get a bit better range than other systems based on the Deltang TX2 module. In my early testing of DT TX2 modules, I discovered that If the TX antenna is covered by the human hand the TX range is measurably less (Range measured in paces) than if not covered by a hand.
My handpiece case is a bit longer than most others meaning I can place the TX2 up high in the case where it is less likely the operators hand would be.
The word of mouth from satisfied RCS users is always welcome.

That's an interesting feature - being able to 'play' the whistle - and I like the idea of a twist nob for diesel operation.

But for me, a steam engine has just got to have lever operation on the regulator and reverser like on the real thing. It doesn't feel right without them.

Having used a similar system to Tony's I can attest to the joy of loosing those horrible RC Systems that are a hang up from our early days of RC, borrowing on Aircraft, Racing Car and Boat Technology. Most of our reverses are just that on Live Steam. Very few can Notch Up to save on Steam as per the real thing. I find a Control Knob that twiddles between Forwards and Reverse quite acceptable. Similarly for the Regulator I have no problem. But each to his or her own I guess. After all Rule One is a far reaching one!

I think the worst thing about those old systems in the pre 2.4 Ghz frequency days, was the poor reliability and the cumbersome aerials - but now we have the joys of 2.4, I think there's a vast difference between those ghastly model car pistol grip devices and the advanced twin stick aero derived ones with the possibilities for telemetry and FPV video.

The whole business of signalling takes on a new dimension when you can drive by the signals as actually seen from the cab.

Another advantage I find with the twin sticks, is when letting kids drive on public running days, they tend to be more careful with the big two handed aero Tx's - the little twiddly knob boxes tend to get put down somewhere, or given to their mates and it's easier to loose track of them.

But - as you rightly say - each to their own .... :)
