To this.

Changed the couplings to "KD's". The knuckle couplings look far better.
(My personal preference & view only)

The engraving was done by Mr Dan Shepherd who runs a small operation called "DCS Model Train Solutions." doing all things Model Railways.
Dan has done a great deal on our HO/OO gauge layouts.

Ah - so the name is engraved on a self-adhesive metal plate? Good idea - more permanent than ink-jet printing on paper (which, even though varnished, is subject to sun and rain - don't ask how I know).

Mate,
Its actually done on a computerised milling machine.
Just work out the font and size, any border you may wish (As one would do per Microsoft Word for instance)

The engraving is done on "Thick Vynal sheets" and one uses Super Glue to stick it on.
The Vinal sheets come in a good variety of colours IE Black over white or as per my Avatar - Gold over Black.
Just depends on what you want.

Pictures are of the engine numbers ready to go and shows (well sort of) the thickness of the vynal

Right! That's even better! It just looked like anodised aluminum. Thanks for explaining.
