Regner rack railway Achenseebahn locomotive

Nice though isn't it. :D

Yup, I´ve got the vertical boiler loco, which sits in the transport museum in Lucerne today, on order. Should be delivered around Easter for my rack railway extension. Unfortunately, Mr Regner, the owner, died last year, but the family are continuing to run and build the business. If past new products are anything to go by, it might take a while before the production line starts moving.

So these actually run on the rack? presumably you can buy all the necessary "accessories" to go with them? They do look smart though....

I spoke to Ms Regner, the deceased owner´s daughter at the big live steam exhibition in Karlsruhe in January. They seem to be using LGB rack railway "teeth" for the Rigi vertical boiler loco, so my guess is that the Achenseebahn one will run using the same system.

Well, look at this way - if you are going to break out of the cellar and head off up the garden you'll need more motive power on the rack ! Having said that, if the Pilatus loco hasn't been produced yet, then it could be a while before this one appears. Its a shame they didn't do the Achensee engine first, as it may have a had a wider appeal.

The Rigi vertical boiler with manual control is apparently due for March; I need R/C (otherweise I´m going to be climbing all over the layout). Ms Regner said that she had been hard at work with the locos during Jan. (and had had to learn this one from scratch because of her father´s death), so maybe we´ll see something soon. After all it was there special loco for 2013 .... so you 2014 might be time to deliver.

Ooopps silly me - I was even looking at a postcard of the Rigi VB loco at the time ! I suppose its wishful thinking that someone one day will do the Pilatus steam railcar.

Now that would be something. Even a carriage would be worth trying.

Hey that looks really nice! Maybe have a word with Philp he has a rack loco for sale...

Yup, I saw it. Trouble is, I´ve perversely set my mind on a live steam one ???

Nothing perverse about that Andrew, sounds like a jolly good idea to me and I look forward to seeing it on YouTube.

I look forward to seeing it at all .... :-\

And in the meantime, a quick visit to the first rack railway ever built in Switzerland to go up the Rigi from Vitznau on Lake Lucerne. Well it took me standard gauge from Basel, then one rack railway to the top from Arth-Goldau, then a slippery walk down the mountain to catch the Vitznau line (which was in steam) down the track to the station which connects with the cable car ski furnicular, which - after a ten minute walk at Weggis - connects with the ship service to Lucerne, which docks next to the mainline railway station.

Visited the Freienbach Large Scale exhibition in Switzerland yesterday, 2nd May. and talked to the Regners about plans going forward. The Achensee-Danpf-Zahnradbahn locomotive "Georg" was there on its display, as was the Rigi No 7. According to Mrs Regner, the Achensee loco has not been steamed yet, but the first public steaming is due at a visit to the Achensee-Bahn itself, timed to coincide with the 125th anniversary of the railway, 15-17 August 2014. Could be fun to visit.

Price of the kit is Euro 2´089.- according to the leaflet. Mrs Regner hinted that there are no further major projects for this year, so the rack railway loco should be available, at least in kit form, from December of this year onwards. No news of what might follow, as the new products are traditionally launched in the new year at the Nuremburg toy fair.
