Regner Willi vs. Chaloner

Hi guys

I am a happy Regner Vincent owner and I'm thinking of getting one of their VB locos. I recognise that Willi, like my Vincent, requires a bit of extra work with flicking the flywheel, that doesn't bother me, neither does the price difference as I don't think either is exactly expensive, but does anyone have a preference for one design or t'other? And, if so, why please?

Cheers,

I have a Chaloner and find it excellent. I considered both but being more 7/8ths biased, I decided the Chaloner the better option. It runs very well and benefits from being a twin cylinder loco.

My friend has a Chaloner, which he chose because it has twin cylinders (Willi has only one). It runs very well but if you have any low clearance on your line be aware that both these engines are extremely tall.

Chris, This is my weathered 7/8ths Chaloner re-named Mog; about the only name that would fit!

Dave.

Very few modifications; smaller pressure gauge from Mike Ousby, guard over gears, exhaust cut back, buffers changed, boiler bands removed. Not much else really, tools and the driver came from Si, I think.

Thanks for the feedback so far, please keep that input coming.

Dave,

That looks very neat. Why don't we also see you over on the 7/8ths Lounge forum? (He said said, writing as a 7/8ths, 1/12, G and 15mm man himself - yes, I'm a complete scale tart, isn't it convenient how much can be run on a couple of gauges!).

Cheers,

Chris,

I do get on the 7/8ths Lounge a bit; I appear as dt1000 over there. You might have seen my Hunslet cab post?
I also work in 3/4" as well since Accucraft locos are more that size really.

You can see some of my stock on Flickr at

(along with a lot of other stuff...).

Being disabIed (spinal cord injury) I now rely on my brother to 'modify' stuff to my instructions - luckily he is better than I ever was!

Dave.

Hi Dave,

You shoot a fine photo (Flickr). The finished Mam Tor looks superb, you wouldn't think it was the same loco as one that is 'factory fresh' from Accucraft.

I picked up on your Lounge posts too, thanks.

Back to my original query: having also watched some YouTube videos of both locos running I think I'm leaning more towards a Chaloner, but the jury is still out, it isn't over yet!

Cheers,

Chris

For me, it was a size thing I think as well as the better appearance. It is a personal opinion of course.
