Replacement Drive Axles for LGB Track Cleaning Loco

Hello again
My track cleaning loco is displaying the symptoms of a stripped gear on one drive axle i.e. drive only on the other axle, but I have not yet dismantled it. Been browsing the websites looking for spares but without success. Can anybody direct me please to a source?
Thanks
Bill

Re:Replacement Drive Axles for LGB Track Cleaning Loco

if it understand your post , and its the drive wheels and not the grinding wheels

i think you need to check it by taking off the motor block cover
and determine whats the issue

i might suggest

it could be either a slipping white gear on the axel itself, or, a wheel slipping on the axel-both due to plastic shrinkage-rare but it has happened to me-easily and well cured by a well placed drop of super thin super glue

given the usualy use of these, i think it unlikely that it has actually worn out-but it could have-in which case you should be able to get what you need either from marklin, train-li the the US, or anohter stockist-it should simply be a drive wheel for a schoema style diesel

Re:Replacement Drive Axles for LGB Track Cleaning Loco

Other possible stockists are Grootspoor, Very good and helpful if occasionally slow. Also, wahrenberg The snag here is high minimum p/p of - at the last time of using 15Euros, but you can amass several items over a period of weeks and he will incorporate them into the same package.

Chalk Garden Rail supplied me with new drive axles and wheels for a Shoema last year....

Pulled the motor block cover off during the weekend and saw one of the white drive gears is showing wear but they are both secure on their axles. Replacement axle required I think.

Chalk Garden Rail or if not there give Marc (bunnyrabbit03) a try as he sometimes orders from Europe.

Re:Replacement Drive Axles for LGB Track Cleaning Loco

IMHO, and since youll need to go to the trouble of ordering parts

if one axel gear is worn , i strongly suggest buying both axels-not one
it is inconceivable to me how one alone woud wear-not impossible , just given how there are two worm gears, its likely

while youre at it, check the holes in the gear box in which the axels sit
if these are also worn, and there is excessive play,
they will affect the proper interplay between worm and axel gear
if the holes in the gear box are worn, you will need an new gear box as well
its not always glaringly apparent either

(dealt with a similar issue on my old spremberger, and i found that all the components must fit properly and not be worn -otherwise even new gears will slip

Re:Replacement Drive Axles for LGB Track Cleaning Loco

A gear on an axle containing a wheel with a traction tyre could be expected to wear more rapidly than one driving standard wheels.

Re:Replacement Drive Axles for LGB Track Cleaning Loco

Hello guys
How difficult is is to get one rail wheel off, remove the gear wheel, replace it and the rail wheel? What is the risk of total failure?
Bill

Re:Replacement Drive Axles for LGB Track Cleaning Loco

its not too hard, twist, and pull(ow -er) should remove 1 wheel, ..drill a axle sized hole in ascrap off wood, knock the gear ,and remaining wheel, off the axle., (use a platic wheel axle) ..re fittings more or less the reverse.... i did the same to chasses green crock, it had a damaged gear.. replaced the gear with a older one, off a set off worn out wheels..

Re:Replacement Drive Axles for LGB Track Cleaning Loco

Is it contagious? My Mogul has similar and even worse symtoms. Does anyone know if drive gears for the Mogul are available and from where?

Re:Replacement Drive Axles for LGB Track Cleaning Loco

May have a service kit in my shed......

When the moonson has eased i will have a look and see:thumbup::thumbup:

I have checked and i do have a kit but, it is for the old type gearbox with ballbearings for the mortor and square axle ends (62006).

The newer service kit is part number 62007.

Pulled off the botom cover from the Mogul and sure enough, the idler gears are both worn. I tried to upload pics but the file size is too large. They do look like the one shown as 62007 on the website so it seems that is what I need.
