Hello
The motor in my LGB Mogul has seized up and I need a replacement. It is an old loco and the model number is 2019. Can anyone point me to suitable source?
Thanks
Bill

Hi Bill

I s it me but I never saw an LGB motor looking quite like that one, is it the original motor do you know or has someone already replaced it, my 2019 of many years ago ( just after launch ) just had the standard Buhler motor.

I am sure spares should be resdily obtainable though for as fsar as I know the mogul's mechsa have not altered ver the years and it is still a current model, suggest a call to Jeremy??

<<>><><><> Further thoughts on the pic, is this the moter having been slightly disaaembled !!??

Hello again Steve

Nice to hear from you again.

The loco started making "funny" noises and running slow so I had a look inside. The motor was hot and difficult to turn. I put a small amount of oil on the bearings and it picked up momentarily but then seized up solid. I tried to get at the bearing and split the casing as in the photo but it is still seized solid.

keep that old motor!-you may be able to find replacement brushes for it somewhere-the brushes are replaceable, and might be the issue, you may have bits caught on the conductive portion-those motors are the 'good ones'

shouldnt be a problem to find the newer replacement motors -sans replaceable brushes

Sadly it is the non brush end bearing that has seized. But I will keep the motor anyway. Tim has got one at Arcadia so I am off there tomorrow.

Hi Bill

I think it is the best thing to do simply replace the motor, pontless to try to revive something that has worn out!!

Generally speaking LGB's Buhler motors do last a heck of a long time certaianly a lot longer than some other G scale brands, I have only ever replaced about 3 LGB motors in over thirty years, and contrary to common belief I have owned some of my LGB locos for many years!!
