After the sucess of EMS a second conversion has been undertaken.
The MOB version came up on Swiss evilbay.
When it arrived it had been vinyl wraped an the base coat of paintleft a lot to be desired.
So why not make a RHB version, nice and easy Eh! Well the paint had been applied everywhere. The cab doors including the glass and on top was the vinyl wrap, so the doors could not open.

Then on a side by side comparison the pantographs were the wrong way round.(MOB right)
So remove the roof and examine the same. Fortunately ( a plus mark for LGB)there is provision so that the y can be mounted either way pockets in the top of the body allow this, and the roof has both holes for mounting. See picture below. Note also drain hole for water..

The running gear, lead weights, electrics and exterior fittings were then removed.
The hole body then rubbed down using wet & dry and a white primer applied. This immeadiately reacted eith the base paint, acrilic over enamel doesn't work. So all the enamel had to be removed, not an easy job.A decision then had to be made over the livery. 651 it seems has had four ( as far as I know) red the original , this version Glacier on tour and a blue Pontresina, and one for ice hockey.

This one seemed the easiest( coward that I am)
So a quick trip to Bolton Auto paints solved the paint problem. Bring us a sample and we will mix to match, and in an aerosol for £11.25.

So the body was now painted red.
The graphics were sough off a customer of mine, who put me in touch with AB signs at Bolton. After a quick discussion the body along with my dimensions was delivered.
They did all the effects and only charged £10.00

I should add when stripping the loco the problem of removing the cab windows.
They are sprung into the body. A small tenon holds it in place, which prevents springing it out. This was cut off and just leaves enough room to enable removal with the aid of cocktail sticks tohold the front apart and the side glazing from the side. On reassembly a small cocktail stick will replace the tenon

Next comes the foil wrapping of one end.
Had two attempts so far . The problem is the angles on the front. Fortunately Sandy at DVRR was quite generous with his chrome wrap.
To be continued. ARGH!:o:

The roof detailing is slightly different. But not to worry! If you don't tell I won't

How are the foil wrapped ends coming along (or should we not ask?!?)
Why did you have to ask . Have you seen the pile of vinyl out side our house?:'(

Still attempting it James

I guess you've got to get it to look right now as the sides are vinyl? I'd be tempted to try those laquer style metal paints - I'm sure you could get a decent finish with them given a little practice! Do you have an airbrush?

James , If you have ever met Phil you would know he is a s bald as a coute :rolf:

I dont know if it helps, but the other day in lidl they had silver and gold leafing kits. not sure but something like this may be easier to apply than tin foil.

Wilkies have a bright chrome spray paint which I have used successfully but not on a loco.

Try a model aircraft shop they have a very flexible metal coat to simulate a bare metal finish airplane, Looks fantastic on the planes I've seen comes polished or flat finish.

Here's a supplier in the UK
