'Rotating' Lighthouse Beacon

The old light in my lighthouse rotted away. It was just a single bulb. I contacted David Bodnar and he had a circuit board with a Haolgen bulb(also now a LED). It is just a single halogen bulb, but the circuit board has the electricty come on slowly, then flash, then dwindle away. You can adjust the time between. Fun to look at. Short video.
Well, will try the youtube this way: https://youtu.be/54zlv3onYao

http://www.trainelectronics.com/products.htm the lighthouse beacon is about half way down the page.

[edit]I've just read through David Dodnar's notes on the development of the circuit (the "Click for more information" link on the products page I linked to above). Very interesting! [/edit]

So do I ! The Lighthouse Island Tramway may be bereft of an island, short of a lighthouse and have no obvious signs of a tramway, but with a light like that a man can dream.

I purchased a similar unit from this company;-

It has been in use a few years now - great effect!

Yeah that's another option worth considering. I'd have no qualms using Heathcote modules - I use about a dozen of their infra-red train detectors plus level crossing controller and auto-reversing modules on my N gauge layout.

One of the first circuits I built when I started learning Picaxe and it's still going, the Halogen bulb is bright!
The ready made circuit board does make the construction easier, it can also be constructed on stripboard, the parts are readily available, good practical project for anyone interested in having a go using Micro controller.

The morse transmitting station further down the page would a nice accompaniment to the lighthouse ;D
