Running LGB Arosa Locomotive off overhead wire

I have an older analog Arosa Locomotive from LGB, and I have some questions about running it off overhead power.

I know there's a selector switch inside the cab, but when you wire up the power pack, does it matter which wire goes to a rail and which goes to the overhead catenary? I only have 1 throttle, and and I use an spot switch to select tracks.

Also, I saw some white dots on the truck frames, next to the wheels. They are only on one side. Do these have anything to do with how you have to connect power?

Thanks

They indicate which wheel on an axle is active in the power circuit for the loco when running on catenary. The other wheel is not electrically connected to anything inside the loco when the switch is in catenary position.

That is the classic old time way of having 2 locomotives individually controlled, used by Triz Twin back as far as the 1950’s. Here is an offering train on Ebay.
