Sachsen coach rake.... great price from Germany!

Having recently got a couple of new locos that really deserved a suitable matching coach rake, I've been looking covetously at the LGB39359 Sachsen Historic set (the three coaches and box van) that a few folks on here have been posting pics of. Over here, most traders seem to have them for around the £500 mark (Dragon lists it at £460, which was the best UK price I could find). So, as I've done with most of my major LGB purchases recently, I'm afraid it was off to good old eBay.de..... where a very brief hunt turned up this:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/LGB-39359-Hi...654&pid=100015&prg=1006&rk=1&sd=310564731281& < Link To http://www.ebay.de/itm/LG...26sd%3D310564731281%26

About £350 in Sterling, they ship worldwide AND take Paypal. Even taking the exchange rate and shipping into account, still around £100 cheaper than the lowest UK price, and almost £150 less than some stockists over here. Mine is now ordered and paid for, but apparently they still have nine sets left in stock if anyone else is tempted at that excellent price! Go on, you know you're worth it..... ;)

Jon.

Thanks Paul, nice to know they have a good reputation - as you know I've used several other German suppliers in the past but never this one until now. I've just had the email to say it has been dispatched, so will watch out for a VERY big parcel....

Did you get your set from the same place?

Jon.

Jon,
there are two 'new' production that I would have liked to have purchased, the historic coach set and the Wangaroose set.

Local price in Australia for the coach set is over GBP700.00. One needs healthy bulging wallets to purchase new LGB downunder.

Well, Tim, the German seller I linked to ships worldwide (and takes Paypal so no difficulty with payment/currency); while the shipping to Oz would obviously be more than it is to the UK, it might not be THAT bad, it's worth asking them.....? Given that you're looking at HALF your local price, even if the shipping is fairly high you'll still be making quite a saving!

What are Australian Customs and taxes like - would you be charged heavily when it entered the country, as we do for stuff coming from outside the EU?

Jon,
no duty or taxes on an item under $1000.00 including the cost of the goods plus shipping and insurance. Over $1000.00 then 10% goods and services tax plus the services of a customs broker as when importing goods over $1000.00, Customs treats you as a commercial importer. Simpler to keep purchases under the $1000.00 threshold.

In that case, Tim, as 1000 Aussie dollars is round about 700 Euros at the moment, you could certainly order yourself the Sachsen coach set from Germany and still be well under the threshold, so it would only be the shipping cost to worry about. Because DHL basically IS the German post office now, the parcel would be shipped by DHL but probably delivered at your end by the local Post Office (over here, DHL Germany hand them to Parcelforce for final delivery).
Go on - treat yourself! ;)

Jon.

Know what you mean about the roof colour on the van, Paul - mine may get a respray, I'll see what I think of it when it arrives.....

I've been watching these on eBay.de for a couple of weeks (from various sellers), trying to decide whether to take the plunge and order one - and I'm sure that up till a couple of days ago, this supplier was asking a good bit more than their current price, more in line with the other German stockists - VERY glad I didn't buy one at the earlier price, reckon they are either overstocked on them or are simply having a sale! Either way, it's worked out nicely!

As you've got the Sachsen locos now, you really ought to get one of your own.... I doubt they will ever be at a better price!

Jon.

Thursday morning update!
Parcelfarce man has just delivered HUUUUGE box, all coaches and wagon present and correct, a total of three days from order to delivery - AND a little packet of free Gummi-bears tucked in with the invoice! ;)

Not only a fantastic price, but fantastic service as well.

Jon.

Guess which "Buy It Now" button I've just clicked on.............?

Well I have a birthday sometime this year - and if I don't buy myself a present - who will? :D

Good for you, Ian!
You just can't argue with the price.
I've unpacked my set, and they're really lovely.

Jon.

Bloody Hell!!
Clicked "Buy It Now" at 9:15am this morning Sunday 23rd June - just received an email at 10:51am stating that the item has been dispatched!!

Yes, mine was just as fast - I think it's more a notification that they've logged the parcel in the DHL system, it'll probably show up as actually moving tomorrow. If mine is anything to go by, Parcelfarce should deliver it to you on Wednesday I reckon - once it gets to this country and DHL hand it over, then PF treat it as a 24-hour priority delivery. Look out for the gummi-bears!! ;)

Jon.

Just had a look at the supplier's ebay store again, and it looks like all nine of the coach sets that were on offer are now sold!
Wonder how many of them apart from Ian's went as a result of this thread....? ;)
As we all know, there is a large number of people who read GSC but are either don't ever post or are not registered members at all.

Jon.

just repainted the waggon roof.. much better ,now matches the coaches

Can we see a pic, Mike? Might well do the same with mine.

Anyone whose Google-Fu is strong today got a pic of the "real" wagon in colour, to show what shade it really should be.....?
I'm guessing that M/LGB wouldn't have just chosen that odd colour on a whim if they didn't have some kind of prototype reference - or then again, maybe they would? ;)

Jon.

yes jon, wsas just awaiting photo bucket to up load..
rattle can gray, and a dash of matt black

Agreed, a very nice job Mike!
I'm still curious as to where the idea for the golden-brown colour came from.....?

Jon.

Well stone me!

As above - button clicked at 9:18am Sunday 23rd June

How the 'heck is it that, albeit a German product can be purchased cheaper direct from Germany and posted direct approx £140 cheaper than I can buy it from a UK retailer???? (and probably delivered quicker in some cases....) - I really can't get my head round this.
No wonder the countries "going to the dogs" :wits::wits::wits:

Don't get me wrong - I'm happy with my purchase - but why couldn't I have bought at this cost in the UK? - I'd have paid £10 - £15 MORE to have bought in the UK - but not £140..........

Quick and simple answer, Ian - THE HOBBY CO.!

UK dealers are only allowed to buy from them as official M/LGB distributor for the UK, at whatever markup they choose to add to the prices. German traders, as far as I understand, buy direct from M/LGB. So over here there is an extra link in the food chain, which takes a substantial cut of money (as does Walthers in the US market).

Totally understand what your saying Jon - I work in a company where in certain circumstances I have to place orders on one of our suppliers for them to place an order on another supplier as we don't have a direct trading agreement with the "actual supplier" - The most I've experienced as an "up lift" for doing this is about 4%
So if the Hobby Co. are purchasing at lets say £360 (£374 inc shipping) which is the price a German retailer is selling at (and making "some profit") then add 4% then this equals £374.40 - not £500! - This equates to a 39% uplift...........

Given that (you would have thought) Hobby Co would import a large amount (half a container?) at a time - then shipping costs would be cheaper - I guess I could "stomach" a 5 - 10% uplift - but 39%!? - Ridiculous...........
