Scratch built slate wagons in 32mm

Hi folks
Yesterday I posted a little video over on the Live Steam forum which featured a rake of scratch built slate wagons that I bought second hand. They were made by the Late Michael Woodward who used to write articles for 16mm Today a few years back.
Anyway, George "Railfan" asked for some photos and dimensions and so I have put them here in case they are of interest to others. As you will see, they are pretty simple and could easily be widened for 45mm.
The video is here:

They are 113mm long, 56mm wide and 50 mm from rail to top rail.
The main frame is 1/2" x 1/4".
The slate is card and the wagons weigh in at about 5 oz
Cheers
Chris

Card!! Brilliant Idea

Can make some loads for mine ...

Great pictures and photos, Chris. Thanks for posting the information. I love the 'bumpers/buffers. Are they rubber grommets? I had wondered how I would be able to get very thin slate and you answered that as well---no slate, just card! Doug seemed happy to find that out as well. :)

This looks like the perfect project for a novice scratch builder to start with. It's now another project on my (long) to do list. Thanks much.

Excellent I'm just thinking about making a rake of slate wagons. I have some binne engineering fr axle boxes to test with. Just need some wheels, I think cambrian do some small curved spoked ones.
Thanks will use pics to draw up my plans.

My pleasure George - though my total input was handing over money! They came as a complete rake of ten in a long carrier that sits on the track so that they can roll out. Very handy!
The couplings are wood rather than rubber - I guess he just turned up a load of them from dowel. I really should put some filler over the cross-head screws though.
Cyclone - Peter Binnie does some excellent glass filled nylon wheels with curley spokes.
Cheers
Chris

Tenmille and Slaters also make curly spoked wheels
