Separating JS2 connectors

Has anyone got a reasonably idiot proof way of separating these little red blighters (other than cutting them off and adding new ones!).

Thanks.

When you say separating - do you mean uncoupling, or pulling the wires out?

Uncoupling - should just pull, but might need a bit of help with a very fine screwdriver to lever apart.

Pulling the wires out - nah, cut 'em off

The connector with the pins you cannot get at to withdraw the wires and pins so you will have to cut the wires off. The connector that the one with the pins fits into you can withdraw the recepticles by pressing down on the metal tabs that are exposed by the small "windows" in this connector. However, whether you will be able to reuse them is down to if the wires have been crimped or soldered on to the pin holders. Weirdly the connector that is hollow is reffered to as "male" the one with the recepticles for the pins "female". You'd think it was the other way around. Easier just to buy new connectors or solder new wires to the stubs of the existing wires. Available from Fosworks and various sellers on Ebay. Max

That’s what I feared. Only issue with cutting off is that it shortens the wires each time you do it (and I don’t have much slack in the loom I’ve “inherited”, hence hoping to uncouple rather than slash). When making up from scratch I tend to use a different type of coupler which has an external latch and small protuberances to help you separate the two parts. The pins are similar size to those in the red JST coupler and although the body is a bit bigger I find it’s worth it for ease of future disconnection.

I got a set of these do hickory thingmy bobs from Amazon a year or three back, pushers for all sorts of such plugs/sockets wires for the getting out of. Can’t remember what they were called (obviously) or how much they cost but the very thin ones would likely be what you are after.
