Servicing & Repair in the South East?

I have an old Pearse Ulysses that needs a general overhaul and service. Does anyone know of somebody that can do this, ideally in the South East: Kent, Sussex, Surrey?

Thanks.

In the absence of anyone doing this in the SE, does anybody know of anyone offering this type of service and who they'd recommend?

Have you a Model Engineering Society anywhere near?
Miniature railway?
Preserved Railway?

All the above may have a member who does small-scale as well..

Failing that, enquire through the dealers. - There must be one in that part of the world.

Failing, failing that, there is GRS, but they are diagonally opposite Londinium, and up a bit!

It might be worth contacting Simon Whenmouth at Anything Narrow Guage. While he's down in Devon, he may well be able to recommend someone who can deal with these locos :nod::nod:

Other option might be a local 16mm Group Society group. There is generally a decent feroequinologist in them. Membership is well worth while for just the Mag alone. Local group meetings add to the value.

Thanks all for the advice. I'll endeavour to find someone through the suggested channels. If I do, I'll report back here.

Matt Towell - Barley Pitt Works, regularly comes down to the South East and will be at the East Surrey Steam Up in 5 weeks time. He services my locos and worked on my Pearse Ulysses before I sold it. I also send locos to him by courier without any problems.

Steve, thank you very much for that info. I'm often in Reigate, which is very close to Merstham. How much did the couriering cost?

A quick follow up. I did send my Ulysses to Matt at Barley Pit Works. He did a very quick and thorough job; I had a time constraint, which he met. He also fitted one of his own burners and the loco performs really well with it. The whole experience was very smooth.

His website is here: http://www.barleypitworks.com/

Maxitrak are rather, uh, bigger in scale terms......

I'd go along with the recommendation of Matt Towell of BPW.

In fact, I'm going to see him tomorrow to collect my re-timed three-cylinder Shay.

Get kettle on, lad!

And muffins!!!

Maxitrak will work on smaller stuff, Could also try Dreamsteam at aylesford

Hmmmmmmmm. If I had a watch needing repairing, I'd take it to a watch repairer, not a fixer of station platform clocks.

My opinion only, and not guaranteed to have any value at all to anybody else.

As Dunnyrail said joining your local 16mm group would be a good idea. There's a few in your area, cheap to join and a fantastic magazine. You're bound to meet someone who knows all about Pearse locomotives and the steam-ups are great fun
