Servo failure on Accucraft Countess

Hi Guys

Can you help me out. I bought a new Accucraft Countess which was steamed four times and on the four time the servo failed on the regulator. It worked prior to steaming then would not operate the regulator when steam was raised. The loco has gone back to Accucraft, servo replaced and all working fine until steam was raised and again the servo has failed and not working. Has anyone else had this problem?

I am considering taking the engine apart and replacing the servo with a bigger more powerfull one, any tips on taking the engine apart, ie is it just a case of undoing all of the small screws that you see underneath the side tanks to remove the cab etc.

Mechanically I am fine but my colleage is a wizz on radio control so he is going to test the servo and look at fitting a larger one.

Any comments re your experiences would be welcomed.
Thanks
Steve

Had one fail on the reverser on my countess. Had it fixed under warranty and hasn't been an issue since. I know the replacement was a different make to the faulty one but was still the same size. Does your regulator move freely with the servo disconnected?

Hi Tony

I don't know why it has failed but my collegue tells me that if the item it is trying to move is more than the rating of the servo then it will burn out.
Just an aside, are you the Tony I used to know from Shrewsbury who had a share in Lilla?

Regards

I take it you've tried the simple thing.......................re-charged the Rx battery. I've noticed with mine that when the batt gets low one of the servos gives poor, or no response.

Which is true, but there is or should be only the very smallest amount of resistance in the regulator valve and even small servos are normally up to the job. It takes a lot of resistance and a lot of abuse to burn one out, and a servo would normally strip its gears before damaging the motor (been there, done that). I am puzzled as to what has happened to the servo you have. Does it not move? Does it make a clicking noise when you try and use it? Does it buzz? Does it do absolutely nothing? Does the reverser servo still function normally?
