What type of advertising signs do you use on buildings, by type I mean what are they made off and how well do they stand up to British weather,, I was also looking for the etched brass name boards for doors, like waiting room, gentleman, station master, Private I found some for 16mm but they are just a bit to big to fit G scale doors :oops: should have found the signs before I made the doors and not have fitted door knobs then they would have just about fitted. Anybody found some that about 24mm x 8mm Max ?
 
I've used various things, including those fridge magnets you can buy at heritage railway lines that replicate the old style enamel adverts.

They will fade after time though?

I have used the etched brass signs on station doors too even though they are oversize.

But at least 12"/1' folk looking at the railway can read them....
 
Thanks, Been searching for fridge magnets to see whats available, The brass etched signs I don't mind being slightly oversize , because as you say they can be seen, problem is I haven't found any yet that are short enough they have to be no longer than 24mm long to miss the dam door knobs I drilled and supa glued to the doors :)
 
Have a word with Mike Llowes at Carnforth models...he's has some beautiful signs ..20170126_153420.jpg

?? Mount them higher up the door, above the door knob ??
 
I print all mine now on a Lazer, some I just stick on with adhesive Print Paper but for a longer lasting Job Laminating works quite well. Just cut the Print quite tightly to the border, colour this with a black felt tip then laminate cutting this as tight as you can to the border but ensuring the Lamination Borders are still intact.

The sign above was printed on ordinary Printing Paper with a Lazer by Andy Rush and has been outside for at least 6 years.

Not too good a close up, but the Station Name is one of my Laminated jobies.

I've tried inkjet and laminating but they fade quite quickly - I wonder how lazer printing in multi colours (like reds) would stand up? Red fades under UV light unless it's vitreous ename.

My Signal Box Diagrams have Red and Yellow Colours to represent Signal and Point Lever Numbers. One (Lazer Printed and Laminated) has now been out for two seasons and is showing only small signs of fade. But to be fair is in a shaded part of the Garden. The one Diagram that woukd be in full sun is kept indoors except for when guests are Operating. For Myself I remember the Levers. One can buy UV Protection Spray and when I next do a set of Signs that will be outside it will be tried out.

Thanks Mike found them, they range from 4mm wide to 28/30mm long think I will remake the four front doors on my station building as I have not glued them in yet so these will fit, if I hadn't drilled a hole and stuck the door handles in they would have fitted on the door horizontal center bar where they should go :)
