That's brightened up my mood! ;D ;D ;D ;D
(Think the o/d of painkillers is doing its' job).. - Would love a cup of coffee, but that might be tempting fate at the moment..

Any pictures of how you have hidden the batteries / ESC / Rx, please?

Hi Phil
I`m putting together a blog post but in the meantime.........

The combined rx/ESC is hidden in the side wall of the cab which is double thickness. I could have squeezed it under the bonnet but the whitemetal would have shielded the signal for the aerial. You can just see the aerial peeping out of the top in the roof space.

The batteries are where the AAA battery boxes would be on the standard version - ie behind the buffer beams. However, I`ve replaced these with AA sized li-ions with solder tags. They just squeeze in quite nicely. As they are li-ions they are 3.7v and so are wired in parallel to give longer running time.

You`ll see I`ve used standard servo plugs and sockets to connect the upper bodywork with the chassis. However, these are quite large so I`m planning to replace them with something smaller. They just squeeze into the engine compartment along with the auto-reset fuse (the blue thing).

Finally. Here`s a photo of the Simplex alongside (well above) my last 45mm gauge build. As you can see there`s quite a difference in size.

I`ve just ordered a 45mm gauge sub-chassis for the Simplex from Ivan. As you can see from the second photo - the sub chassis is held in place with just two nuts (well only one at the moment) - so it will be a quick job to convert it to 45mm gauge when I fancy running it on the `main` line.

It does need a driver though! ??? ;)
These small loco's (more so than even a Stainz-size unit) seem to look 'lost' without someone at the helm.

Yes, I agree. Working on it - having to make my own from Fimo as the commercial ones I have to hand are all too large to fit into the cab.

She now has a driver. After my Fimo efforts looked more like refugees from Madame Tussaud`s Chamber of Horrors, I decided to dismember a commercially produced driver ......

...... and reassemble him in a more suitable pose with bits of wire and epoxy putty ........

....... he now looks quite at home ......

Though I do wish that `matt` varnish did what it says on the tin!

Yeah! Plastic surgery ;D Looks good in the cab!

The 45mm gauge chassis arrived this morning from Ivan and so I wasted little time in putting it together and giving her a run on the main line. The sprockets haven't yet arrived to make the chassis 4wd and so at the moment her pulling power is limited - but she seemed to like the opportunity to stretch her legs on a longer run ......
